Willian vs Lamela

Bullet definitely dodged on Willian, thank God. He would be terrible in our team. He's ok at Chelsea because he doesn't have the creative burden. Instead receives praise for his defensive qualities.

Not surprising considering AVB wanted him.

Absolutely this. If the pressure that is on Eriksen and Lamela to create chances and score goals was levied upon Willian in our side, he would crumble.

its not all about stats though. Mata's stats were great, Mourinho saw what most couldn't.

This is a big reason as to why Lennon doesn't get enough credit for me. What he brought to the team, our shape, our ability to counter and his defensive qualities shit all over direct stats.

Too right. Lennon gets so much grief, but when he's hugging the touchline on the right we ALWAYS have a better shape and look more threatening. He's not the world's best player, but I haven't seen anyone at the club who does a better job.

Willian is good at what he goes, but he is basically a brazilian James Milner. Workrate and disipline with some added stepovers.

Give him a free role and he'll do a lot more damage.

Only Hazard has a free role in that team and even that is restricted somewhat.

It's a waste of time comparing players that perform different duties for their teams.

No, because telling you lottery numbers would not be an opinion, it would be a completely random and in no way subjective.

Soz, smart lad.
Then why not post it as an opinion instead of a fact?

What evidence do you have to suggest Willian would crumble in our team!

You've been shagging two quite different birds and one too a little longer to suck your willy than the other but both give decent hand jobs.

Which one do you marry ?

If they both give equally good quality of hand jobs then surely you would go for the one who was better at the willy sucking?

Can people give Lamela until the end of the season to write him off. The fact is impatience is one of the worst traits of sports fans. What I see in Lamela are very brief sparks of genius and a lot of mistakes because he is trying to force things, if coached properly I think Lamela will be worth his price tag.

They really don't. What he brought most weeks was insipidity. Just running up and down shadowing someone and never getting close enough to actually stop them passing or crossing isn't good enough. Nor is hiding from the ball when team mates desperately need an out ball, doing stupid little flicks to nobody instead of holding onto the ball because you scared you're going to get clattered.

The very next game after his decent 60 min against Everton he cost us the first and vital goal against Chelsea with his laziness.

Lennon has the odd very decent game and everyone hangs on to this for 20 more until the next decent game. His insipidity has cost us plenty of the last few years.

Sorry, did you need me to write IMO at the end? Or put a disclaimer?

Don't be a dick, it doesn't suit you mate.

As I said, Lennon doesn't get enough credit and you're one of the main culprits. I like you mate, but you don't half see what you want to.

I'm with you on Lennon, he gets some harsh criticism sometimes.

Having said that though, what do you think his main job is, for an attacking winger?

Is it to track back and defend, or is it to assist and chip in with the odd goal.

I've worked with salesman who do a great job in every other aspect other than selling shit, which is ultimately what you're judged on. Lennon can do all the tracking back he likes but if he's not hitting the numbers you have to question whether it's worth keeping him, especially if there is a good chance you can bring someone in who is more productive.

Not getting the direct stat is only a problem where the team has trouble scoring, when since Lennon arrived have we genuinely had problems scoring? Only really the last couple of seasons, err, when Lennon hasn't played much.

As I say, direct stats... They don't tell the full story. Lennon hasn't had to get the final touch to have an infuence in firstly how we play with the ball, but secondly, how teams set up to defend against us. Countless times Lennon had two men on him, space for others. I remember when we did bring in someone more 'productive' in terms of 'numbers'... His name was David Bentley. Not sure what he's up to these days.

Lennon does give us good balance.

I remember a couple of seasons back under Harry Redknapp - Lennon was injured for a while and it completely messed up our balance - VDV kept getting shunted to the right and Bale on left but we were still playing poorly.

Lennon came back allowing VDV to go central again and we looked balanced again.

I'd love to get Bale back if Real really are considering seeling and have Lennon / Bale on our flanks again.

Even after that- when Lennon got injured in 12/13 we struggled a lot for a period of time.

The season we achieved our highest points tally and Bale became a world class player playing as an auxiliary striker / ARM you mean ?

Hope we can struggle like that again soon.

I would agree with this as well, we look a far better team when Lennon is playing.

Stop being stupid. We all know that we struggled during games last season- that's the whole fucking reason why Bale had to save us every time. What you said PROVES we struggled, not the opposite.

You are talking bollocks, spun by the anti AVB fishwives. In the way that Barca struggle until Messi bails them out, Bayern until Roben bail them out ?

We invariably dominated games, dominated the ball and kept clocking up points. That's not struggling.
