Footballers bodies pushed to the limit. Lol. Talk to a professional boxer or rugby player if you want to talk about bodies being pushed to the limit. Fuck me, the human body can handle 2 football games per week

It's not about being able to play football games twice a week,
it's the question whether if one player/team play twice,
will he/they be performing to an equal percentage of their max capability against an opponent that has only played one game that week (x perhaps more weeks in a row).

Our players are fit pro athletes, they can play a game every day if needed - but their quality will decline for every game and they are more likely to pick up injuries along the way.

Careful boyo.

Whenever I'm unlucky enough to have to cross the Severn Bridge, I'm very careful.

No disrespect intended to any Welsh folk on here, but since living in Bristol I can categorically state that Cardiff supporters are by far and away the most violent and thuggish away fans I've seen in the city. Plus my ex is Welsh so I had to spend far more time in Cardiff than is really humane.

Good job most top teams all play 2 games per week so there's no excuse. Mind over matter. If our players can't get up for the NLD even if they have played a game 2-3 days previous then it's poor IMO

Anyway, not really the thread for this.

If they can't handle two games a week, may I suggest they fuck off and get a proper job working 60 hours a week, and see how they feel then.

True but the chances of going long distances is much higher in Europa, in CL there were 3 or 4 groups without long distance trips where as the Europa has more games and we haven't had one short distance trips.

That's just the luck of the draw, though. A few years ago in the UC/EL we had a trip to Tel Aviv, but then had to go to Brussels, Prague and Eindhoven. The season after we went to Krakow, Udinese and Nijmegen for the qualifying round and group stage. It was in the Europa League where we had our shortest trips, too, when we played Hearts and Shamrock Rovers.

I just don't get this can't play two games a week crap.

1) There is no difference in recovery time from playing Wednesday and then Saturday and playing Thursday and then Sunday

2) Before Sky came along the Old first division had 22 teams, the League cup had two legs and there were replays in the FA cup so teams were often playing 60+ games a season.

3) The pitches in those days were no better than ploughed fields and players went down the pub after a game and had fish and chip suppers

4) Food and physical science has come on light years since then

5) travel to foreign places took twice as long and even travel in this country has changed so much, I can remember catching the same train as the players to Newcastle on the morning of the game !

6) We have much bigger squads now and can use up to three subs with seven on the bench, thye used to be lucky to have 14/15 first team squads.

Just one other thing for those that think the Europa cup is worthless, ask the Napoli players if they think that, did you see the panic in their eyes when Swansea were going through? There is a f****** big echo sound in our trophy cabinet
The difference is that Champions league teams playing wednesday don't play on saturdays every week or even most weeks they play sundays more often and if they played CL on tuesday they could be getting an extra two days rest, with Europa you never ever get that.
As for pitches in the old days point well the game was slower then, players weren't at the edge of their physical peak all the time which left them enough reserves but even then europe affected teams, thats why all conquering liverpool never did the double until our teams were banned from europe.

As Worcester says, CL teams that play on Wednesdays often play on Sunday or even Monday... Or they have the luxury of Tuesday to Saturday gaps.

No ones saying they can't handle 2 games a week...the debate is whether having less recovery time affects performances...

Slackers. I wish to feed off the inevitable hopelessness emanating from Cardiff. Who's got my sleuthing report?
