Spurs and Arsenal fans are so similar.
There but for the grace of God go we. Fair comments in the main from them, don't have a problem saying that. The EL game before the NLD is a massive boost. Although might be more pertinent if it wasn't us they were playing. Players will (hopefully) be up for it regardless of how tired they are.

Yep, seem like pretty normal comments for the most part.

Haven't they got to travel to Germany on the Wednesday before our game? At least we're playing at home, even if we have a day less to recover.

I just don't get this can't play two games a week crap.

1) There is no difference in recovery time from playing Wednesday and then Saturday and playing Thursday and then Sunday

2) Before Sky came along the Old first division had 22 teams, the League cup had two legs and there were replays in the FA cup so teams were often playing 60+ games a season.

3) The pitches in those days were no better than ploughed fields and players went down the pub after a game and had fish and chip suppers

4) Food and physical science has come on light years since then

5) travel to foreign places took twice as long and even travel in this country has changed so much, I can remember catching the same train as the players to Newcastle on the morning of the game !

6) We have much bigger squads now and can use up to three subs with seven on the bench, thye used to be lucky to have 14/15 first team squads.

Just one other thing for those that think the Europa cup is worthless, ask the Napoli players if they think that, did you see the panic in their eyes when Swansea were going through? There is a f****** big echo sound in our trophy cabinet

I agree with this for the most part but there's one big difference between now and then. The players' bodies now are pushed to their absolute limits. I suspect the average distance travelled on the pitch and the speed at which it's taken is a lot higher now than it was back then. Pushing your body to the limit means you'll generally need longer to recover.

Aside from this, on the Friday before the derby we'll have a rest day whilst they can be working on a game plan, which puts them at a definite advantage.

So how is playing on a Wednesday and Saturday better than playing on a Thursday and Sunday?

What about Tuesday and Saturday? Or Wednesday and Sunday as half your CL games are weds and half tues. Much easier to handle

Yes, they play their second leg against Bayern, starting 2 goals behind so it will take a massive effort to win. So they could be more effected by playing mid week than us, at least we will have the second leg still to come, whatever the result on the Thursday.

Thats not true, it totally depends who qualifies!

in the Europa league you could be playing Lyon or Nice or Benfica or any number of teams close to home.

In the CL you could be playing Olympiakos, Galatasarty, CSKA Moscow, Zenit, Staue, Shaktar ... any number of teams just as far if not further from home.
True but the chances of going long distances is much higher in Europa, in CL there were 3 or 4 groups without long distance trips where as the Europa has more games and we haven't had one short distance trips.

Lower ranked countries get more europa league spots than CL spots(like scotland:D)

In CL round of 16 there are only 3 teams that are considered long distance(including Greece). Europa league's Round of 32 had 16 teams from northern or Eastern Europe!

Also the CL teams get 2 weeks off, we play on those weeks if we advance.

As interesting as all this is, this fred is about what our opponents fans are saying.

From http://www.cardiffcityforum.co.uk
I've already stated singing, 'Cos Tottenham's A Shitehole, I Wanna Go Home'. And just for safety, I've got a brand new military grade stab-proof vest emblazoned with 'You'll Always Be The Yids' on the back.
Not many giving us a chance but there could be another shock in store for spurs, if we get the rub of the green for a change no reason why we cant bring back 3pt
cant see anything but a Spurs win , 3-1

4-0 Spurs

Cardiff with 1 shot on target, 3 off target, 3 corners, 37% possession, 2 yellow cards.

Hmm all this is true, but it kinda completely misses the point?

No-one has said players can't play two games in a week. People have said that playing a second game suffers from playing the first game - the standard of play is lower due to the reduced recovery time.

All the things you say above are true - but they have no relevance to the point people were making. Sure players had it tougher in previous years - but that doesn't mean that when they played a midweek game and then a weekend game, that their performance on the weekend didn't suffer?

Travel, food, sports science and all the rest might be better now, but all that means is that modern teams probably suffer a smaller performance drop than a team of say 30 or 40 years ago, who probably fell off a cliff in terms of fitness and performance levels when they played two games in a week. In addition, games/leagues are far more competitive these days, the pace of the game is infinitely faster, and the overall fitness level of every player in the game is light years ahead of what it used to be. Therefore any fatigue will be that much more noticeable and have that much more of an impact on comparative performance.

Just to reiterate - no-one is saying players can't play two games in a week. They are only saying that playing in the EL in midweek will almost inevitably see our performance suffer the following weekend. Unless you play 11 completely different players, it's inevitable.

Seems a fair point to me - and true.

I never get this song... if it's so bad, and you wanna go home. Fuck off home then!

Ok you seem to be misunderstanding the idea. The human body recovers at a certain rate. The only way you can increase this recovery is with illegal drugs. It doesn't matter if the person is paid £100 grand a week or £1 a week or what "effort" they put in.

A team that has had a weeks rest vs a team that had a few days rest has a good advantage all the stats back this up there isn't really any debate on the matter.

Good job the scum are playing Munich before the derby so we'll both be on an even playing field as far as playing a midweek game goes.
