Harsh on Nuno. Those losses were:
Palace (A)
Chelsea (H)
Arsenal (A)
West Ham (A)
Man Utd (H)

Conte's losses are:
Chelsea (A)
Southampton (H)
Wolves (H)
Burnley (H)
Man Utd (A)
Brighton (H)

Bearing in mind that 5 of the above losses, Conte had two new (better) players at his disposal.

Not wanting this to be a "OMG are you comparing Nuno to Conte", but rather that Nuno's 5 losses were not games that Conte would have clearly won if he was in charge for those first 10. Nuno was a flop for us, but it's not fair to make it seem like he is at fault for the rest of the season when Conte's also lost to teams we shouldn't have been beaten by,
Didn't mean to bash nuno either but losing half of games is not a good recipe. We knew after the utd game it was only going one way. If the players aren't trying there's no point trying to defend the manager.

We also lost I think 4 of those 5 games 3-0 or 3-1 and were utterly embarrassed in each of them.

It's not just about losing, it's the way you lose. And losing against all of our rivals in such a pathetic way was abysmal.

Not to mention most of our wins were marginal 1-0 wins that we barely deserved and our attacking stats were about the worst in the entire league.

He had to go.

If we fall short it's definitely the transitional nature of our season that has held us back. I do have sympathy for Nuno as everyone including the players saw him as a glorified caretaker. Fair play to Levy/Paratici for being very proactive in removing him, or else it would have only got worse had he stayed longer, and like I say for many reasons other than just the manager.

The reality is we were a broken team in worrying decline. We are now a team on the up. Since the close of the January window I think we've been the 3rd best team in the league despite having a thin squad with sub-optimal options in multiple key positions for Conte's system. Still far from the finished product as the aforementioned losses suggest but a full preseason and a good transfer window could take us up a few levels.

It'd be gutting to miss out on 4th to Arsenal but I'd be very optimistic for next season regardless. For Arsenal I think this is a bit of a now or never opportunity, whereas I think we're just warming up.

Yeah but you're judging the team of today as if we've been that team all season. Truth is we were crap under nuno, despite winning our first 3. The mentality and effort were trending us towards relegation, not champions league. We've been in transition since. We're better now, for sure, but Brighton and Brentford show we're not there yet and our squad is far too thin. The average performance of this seasons games is not a performance that is good enough to walk into the top 4. Since xmasis we have reached that level imo but there was a lot of catching up to do.

Performance wise no but player for player compared with the teams who we are competing with I would still say we should have strolled it despite the start - there is no question that the side has improved and that we lack in obvious positions - but football is about opportunity and this season if we don't qualify for the Champions league it is a missed opportunity and those 5 games all since XMAS we were so poor just so frustrating

Yeah I was saying the other day, imagine after all the shit we game them about sportswashing and their fans and new owners that we will actually be relying on that sportswashing to help us get into the champions league now. I mean it would be very hypocritical of us but where would football be without a bit of hypocrisy here and there?!?!

I'll feel dirty if NUFC help us over the line.................................but it will wash off just fine with salty Gooner tears.

The fact that we lost home games against Southampton, wolves, brighton and burnley is a disgrace really. Only one draw (not win!) in one of these games would mean CL still being in our hands right now. Failure to secure 4th place will be all of our doing.

Honestly Im reluctant to believe that either Newcastle or Everton are capable of getting anything against Arsenal. Whenever we need to get some favor from other teams everything goes tits.

Surely we are close because of favours from Southampton + Brighton vs Arsneal?

Thing is, that's just the nature of being an imbalanced team in transition. You have off-days when the big players don't turn up or the weaker squad players aren't up to the job.

You could equally point to the City, Arsenal, West Ham, Leicester and Palace wins, the 2 draws against Liverpool and the way we beat Newcastle 5-1, Leeds 4-0, Villa 4-0 and Everton 5-0. We did pretty bloody well in those games.

On paper we shoud've won the games you listed, but for much of the season we've had players like Tanganga, Sanchez, Winks, Royal and Lucas in the team, while even players like Dier, Hojbjerg, Davies, Doherty and Sessegnon hardly scream "CL quality". You can never expect to reliably win week-in, week-out when that's the make-up of your squad, even if you have world class forwards and Conte as your manager.

Think we're well over-par given the circumstances, personally.

Arsenal lost three in a row against weakish opposition to let us back in the mix. It happens to everyone, so let's just hope it happens to them one more time this season. That said, we really shouldn't have lost against Brighton.

  • Spurs v Arsenal tonight should be a cracking game
  • Can only see a Spurs win tonight unfortunately
  • I so want Spurs to win this. Nothing unfortunate about denying those cheats Arsenal all that CL money
  • agree, don’t think anything but a Spurs win is likely. Though I’ll be cheering on Arsenal for sure.
  • Shame they can't both lose
  • What doe's P**s me off tho is,we can finish 6/7th and still only be 4th London Club
  • We ain't 4th London anything, more to a club that league position
  • My friends that are Arsenal fans are all good lads. On the other hand I've never met a Spurs fan that I didn't want to be out of the company of within 5 minutes.
  • Actually, want a Spurs win. - Arsenal's behaviour since Arteta took over some of the worst on display in the PL
  • Not only the cheating and diving about but the way they got games called off due to COVID and sent 4 players out on loan that week. - Scumbags
  • It’s like choosing to have your arm or leg amputated
  • That was deliberate by Holding. Arsenal players and their manager are a scum club. And as I'm typing the shithousey from them continues
  • Arsenal are a dirty, snidey cheating team and... Its not working tonight.
  • They’re about as unpleasant as I think modern football has seen. He’s a Spanish Pullis without the charisma or nonce cap
  • Holding has been nibbling at Son from the very first minute. He ain't lasting 90 minutes on the pitch
  • Holding sent off for 2 yellows. Could have had 4 by now. Arsenal and Red Cards go hand in hand.
  • Got to say out of the two I'd rather Spurs win. After the last game my opinion of Arsenal fell even further.
  • Strange to find Tottenham more likeable than someone, but Arteta's Arsenal have made it happen
  • How are Arsenal 4th? That team is abysmal. I genuinely would only take Saka and maybe Odegaard in out best 11 from that first 11 starting today
  • Didn't see any signs of Holdings team mates or manager telling him to calm down. Everyone knew he was going to get a red card at some point.
  • talkSPORT having a right go at Arteta
"he's on the touchline screaming at the 4th official when he should be calming his players down. setting a poor example.....I know I am going to get pelters from Arsenal fans but I HAVE to question Arteta's leadership."
I paraphrase but that's the gist of it..
  • weird notion to be rooting for Spurs The fact that Arsenal and Arteta are being done over for 4th by their main rivals is great though. Everything wrong with modern football.
  • It is strictly verboten to ever watch AFTV.
  • It's comedy gold, mate. There's about a dozen of them all with arms outstretched talking about how hard done by they are.
  • I
HATE that this is happening to Spurs..
    But..
I LOVE that this is happening to Arsenal...
    My head hurts....I

  • really can't stand Son. Great player, but he's just one of those players you want to smack.
  • Absolutely delighted to see Arsenal getting handed their arse. Ive really grown to detest that club
  • I will even stomach Spurs winning to see this
  • Decent chance Spurs lose Conte and/or Kane and/or Son without Champions League football next year.
  • I feel totally and utterly ashamed of myself that I want Spurs to smash the Snidey, diving, cheating c**** by as many goals as possible tonight
  • You have to say Conte's done well all things considered. Bet he's proper intense in the changing room
  • Disappointed Arsenal only conceded 3.Son was raging when he was taken off too. Clearly he wanted more goals.
  • Now give me Artete post game interview and I will sleep like a baby tonight

  • aaahahahaha, cry me a river you little cheating ****!he does not like to lie he said, hahahahahaaaa
  • Liverpool Street was awash with happy spurs tonight.I've spoken to a few of em on the train and they are well happy although somewhat confused that a west ham fan could want them to win.I hare Arsenal with a passion
  • I feel the same, somehow my hatred of Arsenal has well overtaken my hate of Spurs now.
  • I
think it shows what Arteta has turned that Arsenal side into that the bulk of football fans I've spoken to wanted Tottenham to win last night.
    And everyone hates Tottenham.

Yeah that one was painful - I had a feeling missing out on that point right at the death would come back to bite us.

Thing is, Brighton are also a bloody good team on their day and had one of their best performances of the season against us. As did Southampton, who have since fallen of a cliff. If you catch almost any PL team when they're in shit-hot form you're going to have a tough time, and I still think our squad, especially the wing backs, isn't yet good enough to fully implement Conte's system as he wants it played.

I'll feel much, much worse about dropping those types of points next season when, presumably we'll have a team that's truly "Conte's".

Wow, absolutely amazed how much West Ham fans hate Arsenal and many of them were actually rooting for us.

Kinda proves that it's a bit of a manufactured modern rivalry between us and them tbh. No way would so many of them be saying that if it was a true traditional rivalry.

Newcastle have only lost twice at home under Howe and that was to Liverpool and City.

Add to that, Arsenal only have 3 CBs, 1 is Suspended, 1 limped off against us and the other was deemed not yet fit enough to play, even when Gabriel came off injured.

We play first too, so, if we win, the pressure added onto the psychological effect of the whipping we just gave them could be a factor too.

Two Woolwich fans who have bought the game up today have gone both barrels on the "softest penalty call ever" and "That ref was a homer" route - I asked, if that had been the other way around, would the Woolwich player have stood up and said, "Nah, hold up, ref, that's a bit soft - no penalty, lets play on".

Yeah... Yeah, course they would've :D

The third is much more reasonable - shitty night, they cost themselves the game, Holding is an idiot and he probably would've been sent off before that for the amount of shit he was giving Son if it wasn't the NLD, but ultimately it's still in their hands, it's up to them to get results in the last two games, they're still in the driving seat for 4th place.
