Runners-up twice in the league, an FA Cup and a UEFA Cup - all in four years. And what do I remember most about the Ipswich squad from that time?

Them making up the numbers in 'Escape to Victory', with Russell Osman chirping 'we can win this' as they're all about to escape at half-time.

A prediction that turned out to be incorrect both in the film and, indeed, in the vast majority of the games in which he 'managed' Bristol City a dozen or so years later.
For me it is John Wark's moustache, and Alan Brazils receding curly ginger bonce.

They gambled on a few imports -Muhren & Thijssen
Cooper in goal
Back four: Mick Mills, Russel Osman, Terry Butcher, George Burley
Midfield: Muhren, Thjisen, Johnny Wark and Eric Gates
Attack: Paul Mariner and Alan Brazil

formidable side who should have won the league (who does that remind you of?)

Wonder if Ipswich have a fans forum thread titled: "What Our Opponents' Fans Are Saying About Us In Threads About What Their Opponents' Fans Are Saying About Them"?

I thank God every day that I didn't have to live through supporting Spurs in the 90s ;)
You think that was bad, I remember relegation in '76-'77, then playing in the Second Division '77-'78. Fortunately we bounced straight back up but still, it was really bad!

I'm old too!

I still reckon that’s more interesting than our constant average crap of the 90s. There was one year we were quite close to going down (94, we beat Oldham in May to be safe and ended up 3 points above the drop). I remember 94-5 fondly, so looked it up and we finished 11 points off the uefa cup places in 7th, with 62 points from 42 games. That was a high point!

We could loan out our players to top level leagues in other countries like what we are doing now with Sarr and Gil.

It would stop the accumulation of all the best talent at the best clubs. But since FFFP that’s what’s happened as that was it’s design.

I have to say, I think it was 14 consecutive seasons without ever finishing in the top or bottom 6, which is probably an all time record of mediocrity

Yeah and then it all went to shit.

Fucking Levy, ENIC & Lewis went and turned us into European regulars. Even had a few seasons of Champions League Football. Heck, we even made it to a Champions League final.

Then they ruined us even more by knocking down our baby sized stadium & replacing it with a 63K capacity, multipurpose mega-stadium that's been greeted with nothing but proclamations that it's one of, if not the best stadium in the world.

What ****s!

Only if you're a masochist, relegation really was painful!

Broke my arm celebrating that FA cup win in the City Arms down, er, City Road, then spent the rest of the night waiting for it to be set in Barts.
I’m old as well.

It was a bad day for the brother of our departed mate. He got half inched and eventually did some bird. I was not there that day - I was working on the buses.

Ah but luckily for us that did live through Spurs in the 90's, the 90's were also great for drugs and raving, so most of us can't remember much of it! ?

It was worse than you think…….this period of utter mediocrity punctuated with a relegation fight coincided with the the goons taking off under Wenger and the Zola/Gullit period for Chelsea.

What a miserable time to be alive :(
