Villa Talk - Reads more like a Spurs appreciation thread.

After today's abject performance I am dreading this one. If Son and Kane click then I think we'll be on the end of a 4-0 dicking and spurs are hardly ever "spursy" when playing us. I'd be over the moon with a draw.

If the wife would let me I’d bet the mortgage on a Spurs win here. I’ve never seen a more obvious and clear result to a fixture before a ball has been kicked.

0-3 if Spurs get an early goal. Think their 3-5-2 will cause us endless problems and Kane is in best spell of the season. And Son usually scores v us. And we should'v signed Bentancur etc.

Another side that just love coming to Villa Park and having their way every single year. Another sickener to enjoy infront of the Sky cameras.

Destroying newcastle at present. What chance do we have if we perform like we did 1st half? They will tear us apart

Spurs look really strong. This is going to be a tough game, Conte starting to put his stamp on them. Whoever’s playing defensive mid is going to have a tough time picking up Kane/ Son. Their two full backs are pushing on so well recently. No looking forward to this at all. And it’s on Sky!

I think we'll get a result, if only for the fact that we've lost three on the run, and Spurs have won three in a row, for most teams form goes up and down, we aren't going to keep losing and Tottenham aren't going to keep winning. Might be a draw, but i'm hopeful of a win.

Watching us in transition yesterday and Kulusevski and Son today. Not optimistic about this one.

The impact Conte has had is very impressive. Spurs look very organised and most players have improved under him and they look very dangerous going forward. Would love it if we had some width to our game and it might prevent their fullbacks getting forward so much and hopefully we don't see the 2 number 10s experiment again! Can only see a Spurs win given the form of both sides but would be great if we could put in a performance.

Spurs are on fire at the moment. When Conte gets that 3-4-3 firing, his teams can be pretty much unplayable. Their front 3 is really dangerous, and they have quality off the bench as well. Be surprised if we come away with points.

Going to be an absolute horror show

We are diabolical for large parts of games currently and occasionally have a good 20 mins. That is not enough to avoid a comfortable defeat against Spurs i fear. The scary thing is they are strongest where we are weakest although you would hope 3 defeats in a row (again) will fire us up on Saturday..... even then i can only see a defeat in this one. Oh well it's an evening out i suppose.

I'll watch it but not looking forward to this at all... Players are pretty average for me and hence where we are. 4-1 Spuds (3-0 half-time).

Pointless game. We are on the beach. John Mcginn can put on his sun glasses and watch Harry Kane show him how you do the hollywood passing correctly.

They have a better manager, a better defence, a better midfield, better forwards, a system thats clicked, their players know their roles and are playing with freedom and a smile on their face. We are still trying to make our system work but it looks more disjointed every passing week, a manager who is saying the players dont believe in it and will replace those who cant play it. The difference in morale between the 2 sides must be night and day. They’ve won the last 3, we’ve lost the last 3. No league home win since 2007/08 against Spurs. Football is strange but there’s no way we win this. We weren’t far off them this time last season, look miles apart now which is a shame. We do have a better goalkeeper though

Lucas Moura will have his usual great game :cautious:

164-0 to Spurs.

164-0 to Spurs :ROFLMAO:

Is it just me or does anybody else get nervous when our opponents fans are so negative about their teams chances?

Also, thanks for getting things back on track.
Actually reading the Villa fans comments you'd think it was a copy and paste of the Southampton fans comments that I posted before our game with them. Oh dear.......

The best thing in those Villa comments is one of them saying we look "very organised". We've been a shambles, especially in defence and the centre of midfield for so long now. I thought we were looking better - but it's great having someone more objective say it. Finally, we may be getting somewhere.

If they line up with only one striker I’ll be a lot more relaxed. Watkins and Ings up front worries me. Especially Ings, he always seems to score against us.

That Oldham game in May was memorable. All the hard core away crew at that game. Me and my mate went up by train with no possibility of getting back that night. Luckily got fixed up with a lift back with one of The British Queen guys. Great atmosphere at the game when we knew we were safe.
That was the second rearranged game for that fixture. For the original date went with the Ross’s coach and heard game was called off when we were at Watford Gap. The first rearranged game was midweek. I was up in Lancashire for work. No way I could get there by public transport. I paid 60 quid for a taxi there (and back -the driver was an old school friend ) only for the game to be postponed because of a waterlogged pitch just as I arrived at the ground. Oh those were the days!
I lived very close to Oldham in my youth, and it's the first time I've heard anyone call it a memorable experience going there.

Unless of course it was remembered in a police record.

Fun fact of the day, people from Oldham were called by the endearing name 'pie heads'.

And WH used to beat us regularly..
And even Everton beat us comfortably.

And Newcastle thrashed us 7-1.

We were such a weird team in that period capable of thrashing Southampton 7-2 but getting beat by division 2 Bolton 6-1.

Every single game other than vs United, Chelsea or Arsenal was a complete toss up to what Tottenham would turn up.

I think that's why I loved the Jol era so much. The first time in my life I actually saw a quite competent team with an actual identity.
Bolton away was the first game I went to due to my northern roots.
I should have taken it as a sign and supported United.

The only positive from that experience was that we left at 4-1.

No offence but this memory lane guff is really boring.
Someone (young) please start a thread for all the old gits, they’ll probably muck it up if they try themselves.

This just reminds me of panini stickers. John Warks moustache. ?
I recall my panini album from the mid eighties and Ossie Ardiles was sporting a beautiful moustache.

That Bolton game was a tough watch. A really depressing drive home that night. It was so bad they made Ian Walker(I think) come out and apologize for the performance.

Quite nervous about Villa actually.

1. Pressure is a massive thing. And expectations. Before we were chasing, nothing to lose. Now it's different. Look at what happened to Le Arse on Monday.
2. Then there is the law of averages - us being on a winning streak and them on a losing one. Every streak eventually ends, nevermind two.
3. And lastly, there is also a packed big stadium away.

Will be so stupid to snatch a draw from the jaws of victory tomorrow.

Not about us persay but enjoyable delusion from KUMB
And they will lose rice this summer and head back to mediocrity. We just slapped their full team at our stadium this season. Guy is next level delusional.

Interesting stuff from the Villa fans, I don't know what they'd have said about their own team but I'm certain they would not have been saying that about us a month ago, that's how we are progressing.

?This is the kind of comment we usually see in this thread about us, only replacing Rice with Kane/Bale/Modric/Berbatov.

It’s hopeful more than anything else.

If ings starts I’m a lot more worried about this game. We seem to always lose when he plays and he always scores against us.

Here’s what our opponents are saying about us. They’re a bit flat but on the whole pretty sensible.
Think I'd rather we lose 3-0 to 3 well-worked goals than 1-0 where we've gifted yet another goal away.
Got an awful feeling opinion will harden over the next few joyless games and it will be a long way back for Gerrard. Especially if the players continue to look poorly coached / unmotivated as of recent.

I guess I’m in a very small minority that is confident for tomorrow then?

2-0 win
Haha. I am too. Not confident necessarily but I dont get the negativity.
Nor me mate. Look Spurs are in good form and obviously have some great players, but anyone reading this thread would think we’re away at a prime Barcelona.

We can beat these .
Based on recent performances I see nothing but a loss. Would love a nil nil draw, thats how little confidence I have. Dream scenario, Ings comes back in and nicks it for us.
Spurs aren't that good that a game against them is a write off, they're in good form at the moment but that's all it is 'form', they're not a Man City or Liverpool that will consistently beat teams, eventually they will lose or drop points, and by the same token we aren't going to keep on losing games, for most teams other than the very best and very worst, form changes. This season they've lost ten games, that's a third of their games played.

A result tomorrow isn't out of the question.
We will gift them 3 points like we normally do, Kane goal and not even in 2nd gear.

May as well conceed this one every season.

Any danger of us moving the ‘reminiscing about the 70s and 90s’ stuff some place else? No idea how my comment about what an Ipswich fan had said about us turned into such a rabbit hole of nostalgia (actually I do know how but don’t want to shit on any one poster when loads of others have contributed) but this isn’t the thread for it.

I’ve got a bit more faith in us than Arsenal to keep our nerve. If we put out our starting 11 it is vastly more experienced
