The thing that makes it worse is that, failure to get 4th will be at the expense of those lot, & then you have the situation of Wham potentially winning the EL ?

Teams lose games though. See my post above yours for a perfect example. The terms spursy and bottling it are two different things, that’s all I’m trying to say.

Let’s see where we are when the music stops.
We pretty much know what the situation will be when the music stops it's the same record.
The team looks shot through and I can't see where the next result will come from certainly not at Liverpool where we have won about four times in a hundred years even Leicester will probably be another draw.
But yes of course we can wait until the season ends and see what competition we will be in next season (Europa).

Unfortunately I think we’ve fucked it, we needed to win at least one of the last two, even if we beat them we ain’t getting anything at Anfield.

CL feels really important this year and missing out, especially to Arsenal, could have some big implications.

Anything could happen in the Liverpool game. We could get smashed 4-0 on the other hand it could actually suit us perfectly with all the space in behind. Not sure why but for ages I’ve felt we will get something there.

Whoever reaches 70 points will get CL football. For us to stand any chance, we need to pick up 4 wins out of 5 that includes beating Arsenal. Leicester, Burnley & Norwich are all winnable games.

We also need to hope that, as well as losing to us, Arsenal fail to beat one of West Ham, Newcastle, Leeds and Everton.

It’s still possible but there’s honestly no point predicting individual match results. The way matches and form is swinging currently is ridiculous.

I don't get this idea that West Ham will lay down next week. Its always a massive game for them and they have their share of wins over Arsenal. They still have top 6 to aim for as well so they will go for the win. I also can't see them put all their eggs in the Europa League basket either. I can't see them get past Frankfurt anyway who were excellent against a Barca that were in great form.

Think if that's the case we really just have to be patient. Since Conte arrived the message had mostly been that with him it's mostly about next season and I think that's only changed because of the situation we've found ourselves in. The fact still remains though that we started the season with Nuno and have had to implement a completely new way of playing halfway through a season, with a range of subpar players and subpar players that don't greatly fit that way of playing.

It will make it feel like a long summer until the new season if either/both those scenarios play out but I think we should be excited for a proper campaign with no disturbances and an actual 'Conte team'.

This is my hope too, especially with what they've achieved in it this season so far, they'll be desperate for Europa League again next season and hopefully that will be reflected with their approach to the Arsenal game.

EDIT: Although in saying that, just seen their team for the Chelsea game ? This is my worry actually, that we'll see Antonio, Bowen and Rice on the bench again next week. I'd like to think that they may prioritise the home league game more than this one but certainly can't be sure of that.

Champs League was always going to be a huge stretch given where we were. It's only because Arsenal are the likely takers of that spot that it hurts. Otherwise it'd be a half-decent season.

Let’s also not forget that the last time arsenal were in this position the pressure got to them and they lost three games in a row they were expected to win.
Then win the games they were expected to lose. We just need to go to Liverpool and get a result.

They only have one CB fit. Play Arsenal between EL semis and on for a CL spot if they win the thing. They will lay down.

Look at West Ham’s team today. They’re resting Bowen, Antonio, Rice and Lanzini.

If anyone thinks they’re not going to play a second string XI against Arsenal, give your heads a wobble.

I dunno if our best hope is Frankfurt smash West Ham meaning there’s no point resting players for second leg and they’ll need top 6 for Europa.

Yes, they've gone full ' double or quits' now . They've recognised their limitations, protected their top players and are going all out to win the trophy and qualify for CL. If they don't make it, they will probably end up in the conference , sell Rice for crazy money and continue to build that way. I can't stand West Ham but they have really handled thus season very well and would deserve top 4 in the league if they hadn't done so well in the Europa.

I'm not fussed if they do as they won't win it.

I don’t think that’s what annoys us. It’s more the notion/optics of CL music, playing Real Madrid on Tuesdays versus Thursday nights playing Slavia Prague etc. Which I totally get/share but fuck it it’s swings and roundabouts and we need to concentrate on ourselves.

I don't really see the CL as the be all and end all to be honest.

I'm ok with the Europa League next season. It's par.

I'd have happily settled for EL at the beginning of the season, given the shocking state we were in. We've pushed on pretty well under Conte and I expect him to be here for the summer window when we've been promised some long overdue proper investment. If Paratici can pull some more signings of the quality of Romero, Bentancur and Kulusevski out of the hat we might push on to the next level.
