The proof of the pudding is in the eating, we'll only know for sure, or at least have a good idea over the next couple of years
I have to say I was always far more hoping we would get De Boer. I t wasn't anything against Poch only that he had very little track record , no tangible success or at least what success he had achieved had question marks-allowing he took Espanyol up to a respectable above mid table position in La Liga but ultimately back down to rock bottom, would his initial success at Soton ultimately yield the same drop back.

On the plus side it seems he's won over the players, they look far happier, speak positively of him. Transfer wise he seems focused on needs but pragmatic in targets, it does sound as if he defines his perceived weaknesses, provides a photofit of the type of player he wants, makes a few suggestions but is open to other recommendations. I don't get the impression he'll throw his toys out of the pram if he can't get a preferred target, instead he'll turn his attention to the next option

On the downside we don't seem to have made any inroads into increasing the shortage of character, drive, desire, leadership or experience in the squad. Worse still some of the few that have that look like they might be sold

It's great having youthful energy and the ambition of youth, but when games run away from you you need some experience and character

There's still a while to go yet before the window closes so it's still a wait and see and equally it's hard to get a real feel of how we'll play when we ko with competitive games, pre season friendlies against comparatively weak opposition and a constantly changing line up hardly tell us much

Poch is here now so no point worrying at this stage if he wasn't the right choice, lets just hope he proves he is the man that can bring success back and hopefully along with a bit of swagger and style in our game
