It's nothing like the Berahino stuff.

Player given the okay to talk to club and agree terms. We discuss a price and make an offer. Price skyrockets and chairman issues a statement about how they do not want to sell and our bids were laughable.

I'm sorry, that is exactly like Berahino. We are the only club in the premier league that has had transfer deals play out in the public like this two seasons in a row.

You are clearly completely unaware of transfers outside Spurs. Go on any club forum, and you will see complaints about how long a transfer is taking.

And this: 'price skyrockets and chairman issues a statement about how they do not want to sell and our bids were laughable.' has not happened with Janssen. No statement has been issued, and no comments have been made about how our bids are 'laughable'. Most reports suggest we're only £1.5m apart in valuation.

United have been involved in transfer sagas, City have been involved in transfer sagas. It happens to every Premier League club, and you have to be incredibly naive to think Spurs are the only club that doesn't sign every player with ease.

It was bound to happen when we missed out on Bats. Not only because we lost an option, but because now AZ's chairman thinks that if Bats its worth 33, Janssen has to at least cost 20

Pay up or get Sanabria and be done with it

he isn't woth 33m, that's just what Chelsea paid for him, Sadio Mane isn't worth 34m, Like Shaw wasn't worth 30m. Personally I dirrerentiate between the two and it depends if you are selling to a rich club or not. They distort the market and make clubs think they can charge everyone astronomical prices. Juventus bid £25m less than Chelsea for Bats, a more realistic figure.

Seems to me they don't want to seel and are trying to push the price as high as they can, which is the right thing for their club, it's the right thing for our club to get him as cheap as possible. Common ground will be found eventually, all the guys at the Euros aren't back in training yet so while he is there is no mad rush to get him in in the next few days.

You may say a lot of things about our club's transfer policy but this is just stupid. Sterling weakened on the referendum result but there is no indication it would have strengthened on a remain vote. Economically all of Europe would have preferred a stay outcome so to think the Euro would weaken is a pretty random forecast. All sorts of outcomes were possible and to suggest THFC were relying on a specific outcome before concluding a deal is fantasy land. The club will continually hold positions in both Sterling and Euro for such eventualities.

The £ strengthened against the € and $ on expectation of a remain vote.. I think Janssen price is €20 million and we now need to pay £16.5 million instead £15 million due to the drop in the £ post brexit.... I believe that £1.5 million difference is the sticking point.

BBC Gossip section (via the Guardian) states...

AZ Alkmaar striker Vincent Janssen, 22, says he is "disappointed" the club have rejected a £16.5m bid from Tottenham and that he "would like to make the move". (Guardian)... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/gossip

So IF that's true, the sticking point isn't what you stated?

It seems like AZ have done two cardinal sins when i comes to fair negotiations.

First they gave a price, when Spurs met that price they turned the bid down.

Second they don't want to sit down.

I don't think this is Levy's fault, but they might win in the end if a club Janssen wants to play for come in with a higher bid.

The market says what a player is worth. How do you know how much is he worth? 10 years ago, you would've though 10m for a striker was too much. That's no longer the case.
AZ's chairman is using Bats and/or Mane transfers as a benchmark.

There's a lot of guesswork going on in here. Here are the facts.

They DO want to sell. Fact.
They gave us permission to talk to him. Fact.
They gave us a price. Fact.
We made a bid. Fact.
AZ considered that bid too low. Fact.
Lowball!!!!! Fact.

…and you think we do business based on what may or may happen with daily currency movements. Our owner made his money playing these markets. I suppose Daniel has had to cancel his two weeks in Majorca now as the Euro moved against him.
A club like ours that has a main shopping market in Euro makes contingencies for these events. That's my point.

Would it be fair to say that apart from Modric, Bale and Berbatov(I'm sure one or two others) that our outgoings tend to be hassle free and under the radar.
It just seems that every season there seems to be one or two protracted deals, highlighted in the media , that come to nothing or go the other way. People are wondering why, or indeed who is at the bottom of this.
