The things of VJ reminds me of Berahino, Schneiderlin, Willian, and so on.

brilliant. Berahino saga all over again.

It's nothing like the Berahino stuff. We didn't make a bid until August last year for him. We made bids for Janssen last month.

Pretty sure the Schneiderlin and Willian 'sagas' also primarily took place in August.

I completely get why we haven't spunked all that money on Batman, but this should be a relatively straightforward deal. Why do we have to be so difficult to deal with that it forces players to make these statements. It doesn't show us in a great light. More importantly it is clearly scuppering some deals.

How can AZ now come out and say we want him to stay when he's had their permission to come to see our facilities and we've, apparently, agreed his wage structure and term of contract.
It can only be about AZ wanting more money for him and it seems to be pissing the lad off.

I've not been following this but did AZ state a price? Did we offer that price and they then upped it? Or have we been lowballing them? (which really really wouldn't be the greatest shock in the world)

In a funny sort of a way it's probably a good thing AZ are fighting for him. It would be more worrying to me if they were happy to let him go.

"can we sign your centre forward?"
"sure give us 15m euro and he's yours"
"wait a second why are so happy to sell"
"no reason :shifty:"
"is there something wrong with him?"
"errr...no not at all ahem *mutters under breath* 'he has no knee ligaments'"

Last week, AZ technical director Max Huiberts revealed a Spurs bid for the player had been rejected and that the delays in agreeing a deal are frustrating Janssen.

"I've made my choice clear to the club," Janssen told AD on Thursday.

"In my view, Tottenham Hotspur have made a big offer. There was an offer of about €18 million. But AZ doesn't even want to sit at the table.

"I would like to start preseason somewhere else as soon as possible. This is frustrating."

From what I've read and can remember I think we have made 3 bids but not high enough by the seems of it. If you read this article Janssen saying the price was 17million euros and they have now upped it. I can't recall how much we are reported to have bid but I'll see if I can find it.

EDIT see above post... 18 million euro bid.

Acer must have known about Brexit ...... I can't find the euro sign on my keyboard:LOL:

I'm a realist and understand the value of money, but if we miss out on another striker who we clearly are desperate to sign over £1.5m-£2m (yeah, it's a lot of money to you and me, but not in footballing terms...), I'll be wondering what direction we are expecting to head next season. Levy is always holding out for that extra few million when he's selling a player, what would make him believe other clubs aren't going to do the same?

You have to take a chance on players these days unless you want to end up paying £30m-£40m and £100k+ p/w on an established striker, which we haven't done in 3 years. Why wait another 6 months to a year and have another £10m put on his price tag?

Same direction we headed last season, up

The consultant was hired in March but the article says the price may have been influenced by recent bids for other strikers. In other words, I haven't got a scooby.

If the diff is 1.5m as many reported then we should just close the deal.... He needs those pre-season to gel

Thanks guys, I think, for the sake of form, taking into account previous 'protracted chases' and because I know you expect it of me, i'm going with lowballing :D

It was bound to happen when we missed out on Bats. Not only because we lost an option, but because now AZ's chairman thinks that if Bats its worth 33, Janssen has to at least cost 20

Pay up or get Sanabria and be done with it
