Even if it was his intention to bugger off in the summer, I would still expect him to sign a new contract.
As some others have said, Verts I can take him or leave him. £20M would do nicely.

I also agree, I would be far more disappointed to see Hugo go. But would except it for what it is. Vorm is already in place. Although his injury record does concern me.

A few of the lads on FTL (including Ben) last night saying they heard Verts and Poch had a bit of a falling out

Poch: Jan, we're going to need you to defend a bit more effectively this year.

Jan: I'm quite good-looking, so I really don't feel I should have to.

Assuming the above is true and then [just for discussion's sake, rather than what's likely to actually happen] we end up in a scenario where the two can't work together, it's Pochettino over Vertonghen every time for me. Just like I'd have chosen Adebayor over AVB every time.

Lot of assumption in that though, and hopefully it's either not true, or at least not a big deal long-term.

When was the last time he has a 9/10 game and displayed his supposed mad leadership skills..? I can't remember...

If he wants to go fuck him, bye bye..

To be honest to have had three seasons and then a big fee from the likes of Lloris I'll be happy - we were insanely lucky to get him in the first place, just feel lucky to have seen him at my club.
This is what we`ve been reduced to see. Fans who are now happy when we lose our best players, so long as we get a big fee. And fans who think were "lucky" to have great players playing for Spurs. Let that sink in. The club of Blanchflower, White, Hoddle, Greaves, Lineker, Gascoigne, Chivers, Ardiles, Mckay and more are now "lucky" to have Vertonghen and Lloris. And yet these same fans start wetting their pants when we cant go to Sunderland and take 3 points

Lloris is one of the top three goalkeepers on the planet.

He's also a player I have followed closely for a number of years - he's been my dream signing for as long as I can remember. In pure ranking terms, he's playing below his level. This is one of the very, very best goalkeepers of his generation, captain of his country despite being a goalkeeper, one of the most respected and valued players in Europe, and he's not even playing in the Champion's League.

It's exactly the same as the Gareth Bale scenario. I feel privileged to have watched him play for us.

The size of the fee we receive wouldn't make any difference to me either way, I couldn't care less about the club making money.

I didn't wet myself when we didn't win at Sunderland. I was annoyed, because we so comprehensively outplayed them and giving a shite team like them a point after battering them is frustrating.

And if you're wondering who 'reduced' us to this - ask the money clubs. Football has changed, drastically, but you don't seem able to accept that.

(By the way, back when we were winning stuff in the 50's/60's? We were the richest club in the country for much of that period. Some things never change, and some thing do.)

BEN? You mean the increasingly negative man in the tree house at the lodge? Massive pinch of salt as with any itk.

QPR? Just saying like

Did he actually have a good game or was it more a case of they were poor and we attacked so much that he was not put under any pressure

That's not to say he had a bad game, but it was hardly a great game. I like Verts, but he seems to have a bit of a character flaw and I think he has been well below his first season form for a long time. He has shown he can be an excellent CB, but it's been far too long since he has demonstrated that

Less than 2 weeks ago I read comments by Jan about how Poch was working with him and how much he enjoyed his coaching sytle.

That's football. Players come and go, and there's very little we can do about it. Cristiano Ronaldo left a title winning Man Utd for Real Madrid, so it's not just us, is it?

I fully expect Vertonghen to be gone next summer. Very good CB indeed but he's far from irreplaceable and although he can be a bit of a Rolls one week, other weeks he's a bit too casual for my liking.

The fact he wasn't even named a vice captain, when he captained Ajax, spoke volumes for me I'm afraid.

If he doesn't step it up, he'll struggle to get a big move, I think.
