just wondered from people that were at the game or watched by other means how VDV looked? did he play behind pav as we all hoped? i see his interview and he seemed pretty please with his performance, did he show any glimpses of things to come ?

he played well. made some good angles with his passes and looked strong. had a few tame shots and ran out of steam at the end of the 2nd half but he's definately gonna make a big impact this year.

Excellent pass in particular to put Bale in the clear (only for Bale to miss a one on one with the keeper)

Good ball into the mixer for our goal.

Overall a solid debut I thought.

VDV was our MOTM no question, creating our only chances and help build up our goal too.

Looked alright, but to be honest I would of looked good playing with that load of shit today.Dont think we got him on the ball enough either.Hopefully we will learn how to play him sooner rather than later. He looked fuked after an hour or so!

I missed the first 30 minutes but from what I saw, he looked class. We certainly don't have anyone like him in the team. He played how we thought he would, in the hole, a very attacking midfielder and whenever he recieved the ball in that advanced position he would look up, see what's ahead of him and always try to play a forward ball.

When he gets the ball we really should have Bale and Lennon making overlapping runs because with VDV's passing ability and vision, he should be able to find them a lot in advanced positions.

Brilliant player.

He was different gravy today. Always wanted the ball and looked to link up play. Amazing energy and some of his more pedestrian team mates today should take note. Best player in a spurs shirt today.

As others have said, he does look a class act, and offered quite a bit (the ball for Bale was sublime). But I thought he was breathing quite heavily way before others are saying, probably for most of the second half, and some of his efforts on goal looked tired. Think he'll be better for the 90 minutes.

looks good, but some people are over hyping his performance here. He made a couple of clever passes. Involved in our goal, great pass to Bale. You can tell he has a lot of ability. But you can also tell that he has still to adapt to this league, I mean he was often muscled of the ball. More to come from him IMO.

The link up with Pav was non existent. Pav was poor today

He's definitely the missing link in attack. His control is sublime, he has a great eye for a pass, is quick and skillfull on the ball, and he isn't afraid to help defend aswell. No doubt his best is yet to come with full match fitness, but i'm really excited to see him in our attack. He was without doubt our best attacking player today. Maybe Bale would've been if he was played left wing, but he had some defending to do instead. So VDV was relied on even more in attack.

10 : It's been interesting to see how VDV has started today's game. He's playing in a free role and he's causing plenty of problems for West Brom's rearguard so far.

18 : VDV continues to look bright in the first-half as he wins Spurs a throw-in on the left.

50 : But here come Spurs on the attack as VDV plays a delightful through ball to Bale, who runs 50 yards to get into the box. He has Carson to beat but the Baggies stopper makes a superb stop to deny the Welshman.

VDV chips a ball into the penalty area from a central position. Pavlyuchenko challenges both Olsson and Tamas for the ball and his work pays off as the ball falls nicely to Modric who slots the ball past Carson. Deserved lead for Spurs.

Just some quotes from match commentry, not loads to shout about but positive nonetheless.

And on a different note, I really hope that "Ooh ah van der Vaart" chant doesn't stick. It makes me :(
