But therein lies my point - we still don't know for certain who JJ was referring to and it just seems too unrealistic to be either Kaka or Higuain.

Sahin does seem like a good fit though but doesn't he have a poor injury record?
guys there is NO way we can afford Kaka'a wages...plus his knee's buggered

Well people has asked his wages and I found it.

But he would want to come if we made him feel wanted, which we haven't. So incompetence is going to cost us a player that is much better than Moutinho or Oscar.

I'm on my phone but this is what I found.

‘I have no intention of changing teams. I am at the best club in the world. Playing for Real Madrid is like living a dream,’ gushed Sahin, who made just eight appearances for the Spanish champions last season.

I think if we build a church into the new stadium and promise him a second job as pastor there on the side he'd forfeit his wages alltogether. Perhaps we could look into having some gospel choir with him as lead singer during half-time as well. I'm sure he'd love that.

Its been reported that Jose wants Luka a right back and a right winger (dribbler) as back up to Di Maria.

They wanted Lucas Moura but baulked at the asking price.

I remember Jenas playing RB for a few years back and we all know how Mourinho things he's one of the best XI in the world;)

Okay I think I found it. Sahin is on €2.5million at RM, which is €50k/w or currently around £2million, which would be £38k/w

So.....don't tell me we can't afford him. Hell we can give him a raise

And £25m + Sahin makes Modric over £40m. Real only got Sahin for cheap last year because of a buy-out clause in the final year of his contract.

What is the source - would be a major surprise as he was German player of the year (or maybe of his club) the before he went to RM where he would have got a big increase.

Sounds more like his German salary -= and even that net.

Injured most of last season which is why he has not had a chancde to establish himself - only played 10 or so games

£25M + Sahin for Modric sounds a hell of a lot better than getting £35M for Modric and spending £20-£25M of it on Moutinho. That said, it appears Moutinho does want to play for Spurs and Sahin does not.

No he wasn't. He was injured for just a little. But it included the pre-season and he had a hard time breaking in after he returned in October, due to fitness and other players being established.

i think you could well be right that Kaka was the player JJ was referring to the other day...RM are desperate to get rid of him because of his injury problems but as said before he's on a huge basic wage and has 2 years left on his contract...they would sell him for less than eu 10 million apparently...

This is from last week. Not sure what 2.5m Euros net equates to over here - £100k pw?

http://news-realmadrid-football.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/nuri-sahins-future-under-discussion.html

Nuri Sahin's future under discussion

Nuri Sahin's future is a matter of discussion in the office area of Real Madrid stadium. The white team's technical staff thinks that the Turkish midfielder has to leave to play in other team, that's what he need. Although Mourinho, after the season, declared publicly that Sahin would continue for another season under his command.

Although Sahin is convinced that he will stay in Real Madrid and will not move to other team, some staff members are thinking about a loan. Nuri Sahin still has 5 years of contract and at age of 23 (turns 24 in September) can not afford another year without playing. Hence, with the overpopulation of midfielders in white team, some have put on the table the possibility of a loan.

The Turkish played only 10 games last season, most of them without something in stake. And for this season, with the probable arrival of Luka Modric, who can be playmaker or play as midfielder, there will be much more competition for the former Borussia Dortmund player. Besides, Sahin will have to fight again with the Mourinho's untouchables, Xabi Alonso and Khedira, Granero and Lass Diarra (if the French does not leave Real Madrid).

Despite having spent a year out of the football fields because of injuries and lack of opportunities, there are teams still interested in Sahin. Malaga, Borussia Dortmund and even Tottenham that could request the player on the Modric's transfer operation. However, all interested teams are faced with the problem of high salary, amounting to 2.5 million euros net, so in case of a loan, Real Madrid will have to bear part of his salary.

He's been saying this for two months though. VDV even said he was staying at RM weeks before he was transferred so it doesn't really mean much.

I've only seen the £90,000 per week figure in tabloids. When he was about to move to RM the figure quoted was up to £3m a year/£60,000 per week which sounds a lot more realistic.

I've been looking around and Sahins salary looks to be around €2.5 million/year. He's probably got a lot of clauses and stuff in addition to this, and I guess the 2.5 million euros is after tax. That should amount to around €90K/week, before taxes.

Edit: And it seems I'm a bit slower at google searching than some others on here.. :)

Luka Modric: Face to face with Villas-Boas for the first time

Today was the day. After many holidays and much speculation about his future, Luka Modric have done just that Real Madrid wanted him to do: inform, face to face, Tottenham about his desire to leave the club and, if possible, join the squad of Real Madrid.

Luka Modric has joined this morning the Tottenham Hotspur training camp. At 9:30, an hour and a half ahead of schedule, the Croatian player, wished by Real Madrid, came to the old training camps of the English team to meet face to face with the new coach of the Spurs, the Portuguese Andre Villas-Boas. They have gathered and Modric told him about his strong intention to leave Tottenham to join Real Madrid.

The Croatian international came to training at the wheel of a black Bentley. Once inside the facility, Modric has met with Villas-Boas for the first time since the coach was appointed the new manager of Tottenham.

At that meeting, the player has confirmed his decision to leave the squad of the English side for the sole purpose of being transferred to Real Madrid. Modric has made known to the Portuguese coach that his decision is final and can not be reversed, so also has asked Villas-Boas to facilitate the operation and to avoid hampering his departure.

Then, perhaps there will come a time when former Dynamo Zagreb player will also meet Daniel Levy, chairman of Tottenham. Levy is going to be tough in his economic demands on the possible transfer of the Croatian playmaker. The leader will say Modric that if Real Madrid wants him, the price will not be less than 35 million pounds (44 million euros), at least at this point in the summer when there is more than a month to the end of the market.

Both clubs, it seems, will try to play with time becuase they think it runs it for their respective interests. Tottenham will manage the possible move without haste, but is aware that in the end the player will end up leaving. Real Madrid, meanwhile, will use the presence of Modric in London as leverage against Tottenham. Starting today, begins another chapter of this story.

Gago and Carvalho: Farther and farther

Fernando Gago and Ricardo Carvalho were the two protagonists this Monday at the turn of Real Madrid to work to start the preseason. Both the Argentine and the Portuguese know that they have their feet out of the Real Madrid and yesterday it was again clearly demonstrated.

The midfielder even arrived later than his companions to Valdebebas facilities. In fact, Gago then trained alone in the Sports City, as happened during the preseason last year with players like Pedro Leon and Drenthe, who ended up leaving the club destined to Getafe and Everton respectively.

Gago has been training during the summer with a personal trainer in Rome with the idea of getting in the best possible conditions in the return to training. But his mind was far from joining Real Madrid at this point in July. The Argentina international has offers from Rome and Boca Juniors, and expects that Real Madrid (he has one year left on his contract) offers him advantageous conditions to realize his leaving.

Meanwhile, the club's website reported that the absence of Carvalho was allowed by the coaching staff, which would have given him permission. The veteran center defender is deciding his destination, but has every chance to end away from the Santiago Bernabeu.

So Mourinho continues to work with 19 players: Varane, Lass, Sahin, Granero, Kaka, Callejon, Higuain, Di Maria, Morata, Ivan, Mateos, Juanfran, Nacho, Casado, Rios, Alex, Mosquera, Lucas and Cheryshev. In addition, the goalkeepers Adan, Jesus and Pacheco.

Sound like a Levy deal. Get him in cheap, retire him and then claim mega bucks off the insurance!

Um, on Pienaar, Crouch, Palacios, Chimbonda, Keane, Defoe, Cudicini, Bassong, Parker, Friedel, Naughton, Walker, Nelsen, Saha, Pav, Hutton, Gallas, Khumalo, Gomes, Kaboul, Kranjcar etc etc etc.....

I'm aware that Parker was relatively cheap in transfer fee, but certainly not in wages. Nelsen free, but not on wages. Saha free, but not on wages. Hutton not signed by Recaro, but was wasted for over 12 months whilst still being paid very good wages. Kranjcar was £2mil (ish), but being paid to be ignored. Same with Defoe, Bassong, Nelsen, Saha, Pienaar etc etc etc.. Wages don't come for free you know, and are generally included in any budget that a manager is given for transfers.

I'm fully aware that I mentioned players who Recaro didn't sign, but they are mentioned because he never played them, ostracised many of them, and this means that all those ostracised players have ended up being worth a fraction of their true value, just because they've been cast aside by somebody who only had faith in his 'entitled' fifteen players. Mr Levy is/has been left with no choice but to take a very large hit financially, when looking to sell these players, because they are only worth as much to other teams as they are to THFC. And thanks to our last manager, those other clubs clearly see that these players are worth sweet fa to our club..

His stockpiling cost us a fortune, and I figured I was fairly clear about that in my first response? Just over £100million spent by him, and how many players did he actually have use for? Friedel, Parker, Walker, and Defoe sporadically. Over 20 players signed, yet how many have since been sold? Ridiculous short-termism in almost all of his signings = very little prospect of getting any financial recuperation.

I'll now apologise to the MODS because of not being on topic. I just didn't want Gaz to thnk I was ignoring him, and wanted to point out that we've wasted tens of millions of pounds, in transfers & wages, on players that that were of little or no use to our last manager, which, in turn, has taken a massive strain upon the clubs books (again I refer you to my first response).
