A good win.

Not impressive again and in fairness, we haven't been for much of the season. However, we're up there and Poch deserves massive credit for that. The fitness levels are the best I've ever seen I think and it's getting results. I actually think we're defending pretty decently as well, although Lloris is clearly huge to us.

Kane being marked heavily now and his influence on games is diminishing a tad. That's part of his footballing education.

I do worry that we aren't very clever with the ball. We seem to just bang at the door constantly without having the nous to see if it's unlocked. Twice today we missed massive chances to score. Chadli could have put Eriksen clean through but tried the harder option of Kane around the corner. Then, later on, Adebayor could have put Chadli clean through but tried the harder option of Eriksen. We don't help ourselves a lot of the time. The quality of crossing from Rose and Walker is quite simply not good enough; Eriksen's corner taking is not good enough either. These are prime opportunities to score from and we let ourselves down on them consistently. The result is we need moments of magic a lot to win games. Thankfully, Eriksen is able to provide those moments regularly at present.

Lots to like, lots to improve on but mentally, to be where we are with what I think is possibly the lowest quality of squad we've had in at least 5 years is very creditable. All to play for in all competitions.

Well done Spurs !

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet: "It's painful. (...) and I think we should have had a penalty for a foul on Jermain Defoe.
"I thought Jermain was unlucky to be caught offside.

A quite astonishing decision from a so called professional official, Even a Sunday league official so be able to make a correct call with a decision like that, How he's seen that as offside is completely baffling.

Our problem is a personnel problem.

I know your solution is 433 and everything is magic, but that wouldn't be the case - we need to replace some of these players. That fact will always remain.

Mate, I've been saying there's a personnel problem for a long time, but then everyone insisted it was AVB's mind control program.

I think 433 would help, but formations are never the bottom line, it's what you do within them, what gets coached. This season is a write off for me, regardless of where we finish, we are winning games the same way we did under AVB, but looking less sound defensively while we do it, controlling less of games too (although not today). I just hope that a full pre-season, a couple of personnel tweaks, and the integration of more development players with better ethos makes a difference, but it really does need to improve, because I can't really see any defined ethos, and we are not particularly well organised either (like Suthampton are for example).

Bad officials should have to go to special tuition sessions on the rules, just as offending drivers have to.

Was the call for Defoe being onside in the lead up to their goal wrong as well? Can't find a gif or image

I'm sorry Kendall but if I was that incompetent at my job, I'd get canned for it. So why are we giving this lino the benefit of the doubt because he's young? As schoolboys we all knew the offside rule, so why is he allowed to be completely and utterly incompetent and keep his job? Send him to the lower leagues and actually let him learn the rules first before putting him in a PL game.

Think of it like this, if the game was 1-1, would you still be advocating he keep his job?

A win is a win but still concerned we give the opposition too much space and chances, as lloris kept us in it when we should have won easily.

Oh I completely agree. This doesn't overshadow the fact we've still consistently struggled to break down a side that sits back against us.

Very pleased for Townsend to set up that goal. He provided us what we needed, pace, aggression, and the will to run right at defenders, and we reaped the benefit of it. We need more, as one man is not enough and even then, Townsend still has much room for improvement.

May as well try and sneak 13 players on the pitch next game, doubt the officials would notice. The incompetence and/or blatant bias of the refs and linos has grated for a long time but foy should never referee a game again, mr fucking magoo would have done a better job.

Oh, and Coys. Foy, just fuck off to asda or macdonalds or something you clown.

Is it little understood? I've known that rule since I was a kid, I just explained what happened to my girlfriend and the first thing she said was "But you can't be offside in your own half?" - I don't think he was trying to be clever at all. I think he was absolutely fucking retarded and should apologise to Spurs/Jan for such a fundamental mistake.

I also think he should never work in the game at this level again. Absolutely indefensible decision, up there with the Mendes Old Trafford goal or the "Adebayor offside with three Stoke players standing on the goal-line" decision - funnily enough in another Chris Foy game.

I thoroughly enjoyed this game even when it was coming close to the end as deep down I was sure we would manage to win it. Found the linesman's offside decision absolutely hilarious and I do so hope that it becomes part of every end of season's bloppers dvd as the incompetent SOB should be hung up and quartered for such blatant stupidity
