And at the back we have the world class Romero, a much improved Dier and Davies, and Lenglet and Sanchez providing ample back up for the wide CB roles. It would be good to have competition for Dier but maybe we’re waiting for the right player.

I think it's essential we get in a Dier rotation player this window. If he gets injured then we don't have a natural replacement for him in the squad, so we really do need to bring in someone who can rotate for him in some of the cup games and fill in for him if he gets injured.

Apart from then bringing in another attacking player (Zaniolo) I think we're then done for this window with some excellent business done by FP.

… who doesn’t make the bench? I’ve left out the obvious ones who Conte wants out of the club asap (Lo Celso, Ndombele, Winks, Reguilon), but have added the AM/WF (Zaniolo?) and the CCB we’re reportedly adding to the squad…

Clubs can only name 9 subs … so 5 of the above won’t even make the bench. I’d say this shows Sarr and Gil will be loaned out as they simply will not feature at all. It doesn’t look good for Spence. And I cannot understand how Moura can continue to be Conte’s first sub.

Whatever happens, Conte will have a real job keeping 22 senior players happy!

Out of that list of 14 we'll see Sarr and Gil loaned out IMO.

That then leaves 3 players who won't make the bench on a given matchday. But remember that we're shortly going to enter the 2-3 matches per week period of the season. So you would assume that when it's say a league cup game, Kane, Son and Romero (at least) will be dropped from the bench as the view is that they will be rested for those games and we will have sufficient cover for a healthy matchday squad. You're also assuming no injuries to any of the above players, i'm sure throughout various parts of the season we'll have 2-3 players out with injuries at any given point.

But to answer the immediate question - Skipp is still out for another couple of games and we don't have the New AM/WF or the new CCB. So as of right now we have exactly 9 players (excluding Sarr and Gil) for the bench.

I think that’s why we will sign a really young CB who currently doesn’t start often but it seem to have very high potential who probably won’t even be on the bench most games.

With euphoria and Richarlison in hand: Tottenham Hotspur in check​

The Tottenham Hotspur squad looks stronger and more balanced than it has in a long time. Is that enough for the first title since 2008?

How did the transfer phase go?​

As in almost every summer in recent years, the Spurs have spent around 100 million euros to strengthen the squad. In February, coach Antonio Conte had warned "to be more attentive to the transfer market in the future". The North Londoners now seem to have succeeded in doing this, with every part of the team being filled up in terms of personnel and quality.

A large part of the expenses flowed to Liverpool, the Brazilian striker Richarlison from Everton FC have cost the Spurs around 60 million euros. The 25-year-old has already played 172 Premier League games, scoring 48 times for the Toffees and Watford. Richarlison can therefore be an immediate help, but will initially have to line up in a three-man attack behind Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son and the in-form Swede Dejan Kulusevski.

With Ivan Perisic , Conte also has an old acquaintance at his side again, the Croatian came to London from Inter Milan on a free transfer. In 2020/21, the two celebrated winning the Scudetto, Perisic was an absolute must as a left rail player in Conte's 3-5-2 system. The now 33-year-old will also play this role with Spurs (3-4-3).

Tottenham found reinforcements for the midfield center in Brighton and transferred almost 30 million euros to the English south coast for Yves Bissouma . The Malian, who is strong in tackles and dribbling, also knows the Premier League very well and should take on the more defensive part on the double six under Conte.


The fourth-best defense of the previous season with only 40 goals was also broadened. Djed Spence (21) was hired from Middlesbrough for 15 million euros for the right flank, while Spurs secured the services of Clement Lenglet (27, FC Barcelona) on loan for the center of defence . Since reserve keeper Pierluigi Gollini's loan deal was not extended, Tottenham have also stepped up between the posts and signed an experienced backup for Hugo Lloris in Fraser Forster (34).

Meanwhile, only two players flushed money into their own coffers. For one thing, Steven Bergwijn, who has never really established himself firmly on the island in two years, has been sold to Ajax for just over €30m. Central defender Cameron Carter-Vickers left Celtic for seven million euros.

What is hope and what is worry?​

Eight wins from the last eleven league games, plus a 1-1 draw with Liverpool: Spurs and Conte seemed to have found each other at the end of last season. What came out was - just ahead of archrival Arsenal - fourth place, which at times was hardly considered possible, which brought Conte a hefty bonus and Tottenham their first participation in the Champions League since 2019/20.

The times in the "unwanted" Europa League, recently only in the Conference League, are over for the time being. After initial difficulties at the beginning of his tenure, Conte has conveyed his philosophy more and more, which will now continue to bear fruit in the upcoming season and should at best end in the first title since 2008 - although not necessarily in the league.

The changed transfer strategy can be a big help, because unlike in previous years, Tottenham acted early and gave Conte the opportunity to integrate the new players over a longer period of time.

Since the squad has now become much broader and some well-known names are under contract, especially on the offensive, there is a lot of communication work waiting for Conte. The increasing burden of participating in the Champions League, in which you can't send a reserve team to the field like last season, will demand a lot from the team structure. The two key questions will be how well Conte moderates the competition and how consistently the Spurs squad, which is sometimes moody, will follow suit throughout the season.

Prognosis​

The mood around White Hart Lane is better than it has been for a long time, the Spurs now have to convert the prevailing euphoria into a successful start to the season, the opening program seems feasible.

It will also be exciting to see how much value Conte will place on the national cup competitions. The longing for a title is great for the reasons mentioned, the now broader squad allows for different, high-quality starting XI line-ups. The focus will still be on the Premier and Champions League. In all likelihood, the Spurs will not be able to keep up with ManCity and Liverpool in the long run, so at least third place could be a realistic goal. In the Champions League, anything but reaching the knockout stages would be a major disappointment.

Yeah we've brought in 7 now including Udogie who's costing a fair amount so I think it's either Zaniolo on loan or our business is done since Conte doesn't seem keen on alternatives like Paqueta and Maddison.

We won't get another CB as much as we need one, we haven't been linked to any for that role and we can't seem to shift anyone on permanent deals to generate the funds. If we do get one it will be nothing more than a band aid opportunistic one imo.

Just gonna throw it out there that Harvey White is now a full time First Team Player as well.

If Barca fail to register Christensen & Kessie , I hope we go for Christensen - Christensen played under Conte as a 21 year old in Conte's final season at Chelsea.

Also, Christensen played as a CCB in back3 for Conte.

Christensen on Conte :

"Conte taught me how to trust myself, relax my personality and be a unit instead of an individual defender. I was young at the time, turning 21, coming straight in the middle of the back three was a big task but I learned from every game, every session."

IMO, I cant think of a better player who can straight up come in & challenge Dier for CCB. Also, he is club trained homegrown.

If Conte is up for it, I really hope we get him. No brainer.
