Did we used to play these games at WHL ? Rules of the competition say it should be played at clubs main ground.

if you're getting that off wiki then i think it's a misquote, the only rule is that all games are played in england - even when two of the foreign sides play each other. we're supposed to play at least three of our pl2 games at our main ground but obviously that's not possible for us currently.

possibly, but perhaps not in the way they're interpreting it. he was reportedly going to be released last summer but i think ended up being kept on because of bennetts' departure and reynolds' injury. on the whole i think he's been decent this season and has been pretty productive from full back, if there's a move to rangers in the offing though then i think it would be a good one for him and i can't see the club standing in his way.

There hasn't been much talk about Onomah or Edwards on this thread recently. Are they not getting games at their loan clubs?

Don’t think so. Edwards was starting but seems to be a sub and I think same is true of Onomah.

onomah's loan started reasonably well but then he had a bit of a mare in one game and has hardly been seen since, their manager may not last too much longer so josh might get more of a chance if a new man comes in. it's not looking great for him at the moment though and two unsuccessful championship loans isn't a great look for him, it's still one fewer than rose had so i wouldn't totally write him off but he needs something to go his way and soon. edwards was doing fine, he started the first 8 or 9 games but so far hasn't managed to deliver in the final third and was subsequently an unused sub in the past two games(and missed the most recent through illness). again it doesn't look great that he's lost his place for a mid-lower eredivisie side but whilst it might be misguided on my part i do still think he can come good. players like zaha, mahrez, salah etc all took a while to put everything together and i'm hoping this will be the case with marcus. i think giving up on any 19/20 year old who has the unique ability to beat players and draw fouls at an absurd rate would be a foolish one, of course some players just never get it but i think we've seen enough from him to persevere with for a little longer yet. i imagine we'll revisit both loans in january and make a decision on them, i think marcus will see out the full duration of his loan but as it stands I think we might find somewhere else for onomah.

Just to add, Onomah's going through the same issues he had a Villa with coaches struggling to play him at CM. He played a couple games at CM for Sheff Wed and was then shifted to AM, LM an RM as Bannan/Pelupssey/Reach are the preferred CM options.

So every single pro manager Onomah has played under hasn’t wanted to play him CM. Bar the U20 World Cup where he had a physical advantage. Does that not tell it isn’t his best position. Unless 3 or 4 pro managers are wrong and everyone on here is right.

Or he played in a more technical team when he plays for England with coaches who know his game and have seen and been involved in his development since he was 16. Compared to struggling Championship teams that don't play very good football. And other than when they came across Soteldo I'm not really sure what physical advantage Onomah had. He is a similar size to most of the players in his own age group, in fact players like Solanke and Abraham are bigger than him. If you're complaint is Onomah probably doesn't have the work ethic or energy to run around in a Championship midfield and show passion then I won't really argue with you tbh, but we've seen stats suggest he makes a lot of tackles and blocks, but will still end up the scapegoat. In saying that the last game I saw him play, and I commented on here, he had a poor one giving the ball away and it seems he hasn't got off the bench since.

I'm not optimistic for him regardless but he has definitely been mishandled like a lot of English players as I've mentioned a gazillion times, which is often responded to with, if they are good enough they will play, which links me to what Southgate said recently https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...demns-shortage-england-players-premier-league

“It is incredible,” Southgate said. “It was a 33% average last season, then it went below 29% and this weekend it was below 25% for all of the teams. Nobody can tell me that, if players are good enough, they will come through. That is not true. There are plenty of players who are good enough.

“For parents and boys entering academies, the very nature of it is that you expect there to be opportunity at the end. I go back to previous tournaments when we have reviewed everything that has gone on in English football. So many of those things are in the right place now, so this is just the missing piece. But that is a conundrum we have to solve.”

Southgate is probably the first manager England have had in ages who knows the academies, has worked with the youngsters, has the balls to make big decisions and has England playing as well as I've seen them. He is also a former PL player and works with current PL players. I trust is opinion that he is seeing players that are good enough to play PL football and they aren't getting a chance. He is choosing players against, the general consensus who aren't getting much game time for their club, but because he knows they are still good enough and they are showing their worth. The reason players like Onomah (and KWP) ares till getting chosen by their country is because the FA know that despite their lack of opportunities they and others are good enough, but they and many others will still struggle to get opportunities. And when they inevitably don't we all know where the blame will lie. It's refreshing to have a manager like Southgate point it out, and coaches like Parker point it out, but there's too much money in the game for anyone really to take the risk and make a change.

We will continue to stifle and waste careers of talented players and then look at what they did wrong and claim they were never good enough. Do you believe the PL managers who have terrible records of giving players chances forcing them abroad where they then look the part and prove people wrong, Championship managers who play poor football that talented academy players rarely experience, in disjointed where the sole aim is to get the ball up the field as quickly as possible or Southgate someone who has worked with all the best talent through the age groups, in one of England's most talented generations and seen them on an even footing, where the club they come through and chances they are getting become irrelevant and choosing them on ability alone? I know who I'd trust more in this.
