Lyon want like £70-80m for Ndombele apparently.
Good luck to them. I'd want that for him if he was our player.
Lyon want like £70-80m for Ndombele apparently.
Here’s my periodic reminder that Ndombele is not a realistic option for us.
Spurs do not offer anything Lyon can’t. There is no reason for him to move to us unless he is a closet spurs fan. He will develop well at Lyon in a league where hell play let’s of games. It won’t inhibit his chances of being selected for France. He’ll play CL football every season and Lyon will get closer to the title every year.
When he does go, the biggest teams in the world will want him. PSG will be one of the first in line and Tuchel has repeatedly said he admires him. We’re not going to compete on prestige, trophies or money with the other clubs that will want him.
In terms of the financials, Lyon owe Amiens 20% sell on fee so whatever fee you thought he could go for, Aulas will try to extract that added 25%.
Would he improve us? Absolutely. But the time was last season.
See you in May for an identical post.

Spurs don't offer anything that Lyon can't? Not being funny but we certainly do offer something a little better to his current gig. Here’s my periodic reminder that Ndombele is not a realistic option for us.

If anything, I'd say Lyon is probably a more vibrant City than London and their stadium and facilities are better than ours.
Spurs don't offer anything that Lyon can't? Not being funny but we certainly do offer something a little better to his current gig.
I frequently watch Ligue 1 games and the majority are pretty boring and have limited challenges in them. Sure it has certain qualities but if it wasn't for PSG the league would hold no value in the eyes of most supporters globally.
The prestige of the Premier League, the competitiveness, the financial gains not only as a wage but brand wise for players is a big pull. Tottenham Hotspur are a far bigger team historically than Lyon, it's definitely a step up in his career albeit maybe not a big enough one for him to take a shot at. He could well wait for a bigger offer but I don't think for a minute we are a sideway step, not by a long chalk
Aulas has already said he is likely to be sold this summer and the best offers have come from the prem. Yes, he might well mean Man City but we are clearly interested so I wouldn’t count us out.
I’ll try to reply to you all in one...I agree with some of what you said but to say Spurs don't offer anything Lyon can't I think is incorrect. Ligue 1 is not highly though of compared to the prem, people dream of playing in this league and we are (hopefully) one of the few teams that can offer Prem and Champions League football. I also imagine we can offer more in wages certainly now. We also now have world class facilities which are unrivalled for player experience. However I agree that he will develop well and likely get a toptop team if he stays put but fingers crossed anyhow.
I'm pretty sure we can offer him much more money than Lyon. Sure not as much as PSG, City, Real etc but much more than he currently earns at Lyon. Here’s my periodic reminder that Ndombele is not a realistic option for us.

If big clubs weren’t interested... if PSG werent aggressivey pursuing him... if Guardiola hadn’t said he was a fan and Juventus werent monitoring him... then I wouldn’t be saying these things. I’d be saying that if we went all in for him then we could get him.I'm pretty sure we can offer him much more money than Lyon. Sure not as much as PSG, City, Real etc but much more than he currently earns at Lyon.
If those club are not so much interested or think 60-70 is too much for him and they have different priorities I guess we have a chance of signing him. I mean he may be happy to join us. Are we happy to spend 60-70mln on him is of course different story...
City have unlimited money, who’s to say they won’t just buy both.
I’ll try to reply to you all in one...
- Lyon is an hour from the south of France and from the mountains. The region has (arguably) the best food in the world. The quality of life in Lyon is higher than it is in London.
- The EPL is a top destination and Ligue 1 is not as strong or prestigious but remember that the strength of your feeling is impacted by your Britishness. Tanguy is french and so he won’t be as starry eyed. He will want to win trophies and earn a shitload of money doing so. His next move can and probably will be to a super club who can offer him both. We can offer him neither with the level of certainty others can (sorry !!).
- in any case both points are answered by PSG coming in for him. Playing in Paris (not a bad city HUH) for a team that competes in every competition and can pay serious cash - what have we got on that ? World class facilities for sure - but careers are short and a well-advised player will prioritise success.
The truth is that spurs from abroad are seen as a fantastic club to develop at. Poch will play the youth (remember that de Jong interview?). But if you’re at a club like Lyon and the big clubs are interested ... spurs do not hold that much appeal.
I feel like a traitor saying these things but once you see outside the spurs bubble...it’s true. I would love to be wrong but we will see come the summer !

I think your views lacked credibility when you included Dier and omitted Sissoko. Dier for me is a spent source who will only get back in in dire circumstances. I don't that Southgate will be even including him in any future England set up. Onions and all thatFor me the players definitely talented enough to be in our squad are:
Lloris (got to cut out the mistakes though but he clearly has the talent)
Rose
Alderweireld
Vertonghen
Sanchez
Foyth
Dier
Winks
Dele
Eriksen
Lucas
Kane
Possibly being very harsh on Davies & Sissoko but they are steady players, not powerhouses in the game. For me the above listed 12 players are the most i portent nucleus to the team quality wise. The only thing we lack from that group to play a settled starting XI that knows each others games whilst others integrate into the squad is a starting XI right back.
Upheaval can be a bad thing but with he core first team staying pretty much exactly the same I don't necessarily think peripheral squad upheaval in this case would be a bad thing. Fresh blood, instill a little urgency into the first XI for their squad places etc.
Can anyone realistically say that if we lost the likes of Vorm, Trippier, Aurier, Davies, Wanyama, Nkoudou, Lamela, Janssen & Llorente that it would serious damage our playing style to the point where the risk isn't worth taking? Add Sissoko into the mix who is a great squad player but that's all he should be and you've got 10 potential exits that really are 2nd string based on ability compared to our top dogs in the current ranks

It’s a great fact and true. But it’s because the french population is dispersed over a wider area and more towns and villages. Lyon is France’s 3rd city with just over 500,000 but in the uk it would be #13.You make good points about Lyon.as a destination but isn't London the 6th most populated French citizen city?
