A clear system and a good coach with the ability to flip a match on its head if it ain’t going well. I’ll take that, thank you.

I think Conte (assuming we back him), would thrive having 5 subs in order to change a game too. Nuno would have waited until 80+ mins still

Like many people on here, I find it hard to believe that Jose and Nuno set our teams up to be as bad as they were, getting even fundamental basics wrong, and suspect that we have a lot of players who are simply tactically inept.

I guess we'll soon find out!

If it’s Conte it’s exciting whether you support it or not.

He is a genuine current world class manager and winner. He has gravitas in his personality as well and won’t take any shit.

Also it will be interesting to see how we set up. Between his 2 favoured systems 352 and 343 each would mean very different outcomes for the current squad.
We have more depth for wide forwards than CM’s so 343 but our WF’s beyond Son are arguably our weakest position so 352 ?‍♂️

would PEH, Dele and Ndombele suit his system?

which CB’s would work best?

so many questions!

Personally, I think we‘re at the point where results matter over style now. We’re at risk of being cut adrift of the pack when it comes to the CL.

There is plenty of talent in this squad, more than enough to get top 4 in my opinion, but without the right attitude from the players, the talent means nothing. If Conte is the guy to instill/inspire the right attitude and get the results we need, then that is fine by me regardless of how we play.
Really think you are hugely over estimating the current squad. ' more than enough for top 4? ' Sorry, just don't see it at all.

in the minority i know but i actually don't mind Dier, think he is a good solid character to.

I bet Conte picks him, and I bet we still get the usual suspects telling us how crap Dier is despite a succession of managers picking him.

We are at that point where every journey keeps repeating each other but he said earlier this morning he was the number one target but that anything could still happen. He seems a bit more definitive now.

Tottenham Hotspur are close to reaching an agreement with Antonio Conte.

The Athleticrevealed earlier on Mondaythat Conte was the leading contender for the vacancy after the club sacked Nuno Espirito Santo. Coaches Ian Cathro, Rui Barbosa and Antonio Dias were also relieved of their duties.

Tottenham said that they would announce Nuno’s replacement “in due course”, with negotiations with Conte’s representatives commencing on Monday. Conte arrived in London from Italy on Monday morning.

Conte was also a target for Tottenham in the summer only for talks to break down.

Conte’s two years in charge of Chelsea saw them win the Premier League title in 2016-17 and the FA Cup the following season.

He left Inter Milan over the summer after guiding them to the 2020-21 Serie A title.

Nuno was sacked after Saturday’s 3-0 home loss to Manchester United in which supporters vented their frustration.

Talks were held between chairman Daniel Levy and managing director of football Fabio Paratici over Nuno's dismissal on Sunday. The decision was then communicated to Nuno at Tottenham’s training ground on Monday morning.

Haven’t we been here before?!

The Athletic reported in June that Spurs had made contact with the former Inter Milan and Chelsea boss to replace Jose Mourinho.

Conte left Inter Milan in the summer after steering them to their first Serie A title for 11 years. The Italian has also previously won the Premier League with Chelsea and Serie A with Juventus during a glittering managerial career.

When Conte discussed the role with Tottenham, he was hugely impressive, and spoke like a man who wanted the job. He talked in detail about his ambitions and his plans, how he would get the players fitter — something the club is especially keen on right now — and organise them defensively again. Conte has a reputation for being demanding but there were no issues raised over his salary or terms.

But in that interview, Conte also warned the club that if they had any doubts about signing him, they should not do it. He believed that as long as he was allowed to drive this project as he wanted, then it would work, and hinted that if he ever felt that the club lied to him, he would walk out, just as he’d just done at Inter.

After this call, there was confidence at Tottenham a deal could be done, and that they had found a manager far better and more successful than many they had looked at over the course of the process.

Even if Conte was not exactly a natural fit for their initial criteria. But as that week went on, and the two parties should have been moving towards a final agreement, it was clear that Conte was having second thoughts. By June 4, the move was off.

Why exactly Conte pulled out remains unclear.

Wow, really seems to be moving in the right direction fast. Still time for Levy to come in and balls is up though.
On a serious note, albeit 6 months late, this is a statement appointment.
I really wanted Tuchel when PSG let him go and Jose was struggling. We dithered, Chelsea didn’t. Tuchel then took Lampard’s underperforming team from mid table to CL qualification and also won the CL, same players that were languishing mid table under Lampard. Shows how much extra a good manager can extract from a pool of players.
We then missed out chance in the summer, but it seems the Nuno era has maybe opened the eyes of the club hierarchy to how bad things have got, and how serious they need to be about the rebuild ahead. Get the feeling we have moved quickly this time, knowing Newcastle could be trying to sell a big money project, and also the United role may be coming into focus. We are moving to get Conte now so we don’t miss out and watch teams pull away from us as Chelsea did.

Conte will have a massive amount of work to get our players playing well much less to his style. He is obviously the linchpin but one would think that the speed of implementation will be a function of bringing in a coaching staff who can help. Does anyone who follows Italian football closely have any clue as to availability of former assistant coaches?

He'll want a huge staff (6-7 guys)
Angelo Alessio from Chelsea days is trying himself as a manager, at a minor foreign club though.
Checked Inter's current staff, can't see Conte's assistant still there: Christian Stellini
He also tend to bring his brother Gianluca Conte.
