What I don't get is where our scouting network is.

These two, NDombele and Lo Celso were only bought in the last year for €10m and €22m.

We're now looking at a combined £120m for the pair!

I'm pleased we'd looking at CL ready players, but why the hell haven't we been able to pick up good value young players like that in recent years?

I think this is because Paul Mitchell left... I could be wrong, but it hasn’t been the same since then.

I honestly don't think it's the scouting that's the problem as they don't choose which targets we go for as far as I know.
Anyway, we can whine all we want about not pulling the trigger one or two years ago for Lo Celso and Ndombele but then no one knew they would blow up the way they did either.
If PSG knew they wouldn't have let Lo Celso go on loan to Betis with a 22m buy out clause and the same can be said about the team (forgot the name) who let Ndombele go out on loan to Lyon with a 10m clause.
We're a massive club now and it's a lot harder for us to find the right punts now when compared to let's say 4 or 5 years ago since we need our players to play a part to some extent already from the beginning.

There is no team in world football that can predict how good players with potential will go on to be. These two have shown they can cut it at the top level in their respective leagues/European competition. As such the value increases. Do we need a squad full of raw potential or players already playing at a high standard relatively early in their careers?

Would you prefer to do the Bale money(eg) again and live in hope some of them work, or take a far more calculated risk at a higher cost.

Fact is it's not about scouting NDom has been on the radar for ages. It's now that we are confident he won't be another N'Jie or GKN and that's what costs.

Good to hear based off the ITK we've had that we're shopping in the Marks & Spencers of the football supermarkets. Been lurking a while, will chuck a bit extra towards SC on top of my subscription on pay day.

I do remember you saying last summer that the club weren’t sure about ndombele because he gave the ball away easily in deep positions. I’m assuming he’s ironed that out of his game now.

Trix's info confirms that when you reach the level we now have, you really can't afford to guess if a player will make it or not (unless they're HG youngsters). Our players have to plough through a mountain of domestic. European and International football every year and, as we so very nearly found out, any gaps in your squad will be brutally exposed. Squad depth needs to be maintained at a very high standard.

It's interesting that those two players are always brought up whenever this discussion comes up. It really sounds like these two deals really stick in the minds of the hierarchy as "we must never do this again"-type deals. But as you say, trying to guarantee that we won't sign players who will be quite so bad is what costs.

Because we are looking for first teamers , which are hard to find that will suit the premier League. Look at Pogba. we don't want another Jansen... Oh and the stadium would have diverted funds too

Less of a dead cert good move for them too, right? Other divisions are slightly more tolerant and forgiving so make sense to remain in to develop during the early years.
