We brought in Paratici and was told he was going to be dealing with transfers and that Daniel Levy was taking a step back. I tell you what - this transfer window is strangely very similar to all the transfer windows I can remember in the last twenty years.

We're going to lose Paratici and Conte at the end of the season aren't we?
Maybe, just maybe, that’s how transfer windows are for the majority of clubs. Transfers are difficult, they often get scuppered, delayed, have ups and downs throughout the process. They are multi million pound transactions with a large number of parties involved.

We are just much closer to it for spurs - we follow it closely and get snippets of what’s going on behind the scenes. So it might seem a bit different because we are so close, but really it’s not.

Outside of the billionaire play toys, maybe this is how it works unfortunately.

No. One in one out doesn't help us with squad depth. We know youngsters won't break through so for the same of £20m keep him. And he is a good player.
No but it improves the squad. Presumably can't afford to have both, Stevie is homesick, one of the few assets who is wanted for decent money, hasn't contributed that much in his 2 years. If money wasn't a factor he'd be a useful player to keep but in the circumstances it's a no-brainer. Diaz is a lot better

Stage 1: We'll say nothing is going to happen in January.

Stage 2: We'll say that maybe some deals will happen in January, but that we should do nothing.

Stage 3: We'll say maybe there is a player we should sign, but there is nothing we can do.

Stage 4: We'll say maybe there was something we could have done, but its too late now.
So just think that nothing will happen and be pleasantly surprised and grateful when it does.

Between ENIC taking over and up until circa 2012 things actually worked out for us. We usually had a lot of players being branded as "deadweight". This was for a variety of reasons. We had a rapid rise which meant we outgrew certain players, sometimes players got old or just lost form. Sometimes they just weren't the right fit.

However, we always managed to sell flog them off for - at the time - big fees to the likes of Stoke, while also managing to get upgrades. Lots of these deals were made late - with success.

After 2012 things have gotten progressivly worse. I dont know if its because of the market changing or us being in a different place in the food chain or the fact that all clubs scout players different than 10 years ago (more stats and so on). But this scatter gun approach hasn't really worked for quite some time. Not sure its 100 % about not paying the price, but it feels like we're essentially wheelin' and dealin' in a way that is a thing of the past.
The old school managers have pretty much been replaced as well, the younger ones want to try and build a club up with good football high energy so that will get a chance at a top club.

Geez it's funny reading this thread, more entertaining than the TW

Traore is not a wing back and has no end game, we should aim higher

Traore deal to Barca seems done; why can't we have any shiny new toys like other clubs, typical Spurs, blah blah fucking blah.

The deal with Diaz seems well advanced, there always seems to be a delay with what is happening with deals, and when they hit the media, perhaps we got wind of his desire to play with Barca and we moved onto Diaz who seems a far superior prospect.

If that's the case, and I mean if, we seem to have handled it well. I'd say there are other potential deals that we don't know about yet and most wont happen as they are only back up deals.

I think it's a bit premature to get the hangman's noose out just yet.

Jeez...I was on this thread at 1pm today and just come back in and saw 17 unread pages. 17! My excitement was high ?

But, having now scrolled through those 17 pages, you can imagine my disappointment. Seems to be the general feeling of a Spurs fan these days ?

Interested, looking at, ready to launch, watching, do all clubs go through the same narrative as us every transfer window, NO they don't they identify the target open talks, agree a fee and sign the player
It takes us 24 / 25 days of hysteria of who we are supposedly signing to watch them all disappear into the smoke, then we are left with no time at all to get anyone in
Diaz is a way of keeping us all semi-interested only for ' We Tried but.......................'
