If you read back through, Jasper makes it sound like there's no way we'd be willing to meet their asking price, but then his next update talks about Lennon and a deal being done that way.

JJ has admitted that McCarthy was the one he was wrong about, so its pretty clear that we're interested if we've sounded out his interest - with him being very keen.

He also said the other night about it being interesting in terms of how this pans out - ie negotiations and Everton being 'tricky' to deal with.

Also JJ said Jasper's info was a bit wayward regarding price. Implying we're not as put off as he makes out.

Hadn't seen the second update from Jasper- does change things a little.

Personally, I am perhaps slightly negative on the deal. Not that I think he is a 'bad' player, I just think we could/should have aimed higher over the last 18 months. It's probably effecting how I interpret the info!

I think @mrpink and myself are definitely going off of JJ comments/info as much. I agree the Jasper ITK in isolation looks like we have a more exciting prospect we are working on. Which could be true but maybe more unlikely than Jasper's sources are letting on.

Kramer/Rabiot maybe?
Well there is ITK that Rabiot is very keen to join us. However PSG are very reluctant to sell.

I'm itching for him NOT to come, I think he'd add nothing, certainly not enough to challenge top 4. I'd much rather rabiot. Think it's a case of going safe cause prem experience and worried about gambling on a potentially much better overseas player now the one decent prem experienced one has gone In Morgan.

Personally I would rather have an experienced premiership player in our midfield who will suit the system Poch wants to play than spend cash on a talented young player from Europe who is unproven in the league. We need more experience and more premiership experience in the middle of the park - for me McCarthy would be a great signing for that reason.

Not really that relevant but did Kaboul not reject a move to Sunderland when Roy Keane was in charge and sign for Pompey instead?

We already have two incredibly high potential CMs in Bentaleb and Delle Alli, I don't think a safe and experienced option is a bad idea, especially in this position. There's a reason Martinez rates him so highly.

WF on the other hand we HAVE to go for the young and high potential route IMO.

I didn't see the bit where he implied he could be mistaken with us being priced out. Where was this mate?

Edit: never mind, found it it. Wasn't particularly hidden lol

I'd be very surprised if we weren't keeping an eye on Kramer.

My guess is that we've got various deals on the go for a DM/CM and McCarthy is just one of those.

Thinking about it this is probably the most likely scenario:-

We really like Rabiot and Kramer. Deals are very complicated. McCarthy really wants us. JJ is a fan of McCarthy and what he would bring and is pessimistic on the chances of the other two.

When he said Jasper's first update was on the money, but the bit about price, regarding McCarthy, was wayward.

To me it reads like we have interest in McCarthy, but that interest comes with financial limitations, and maybe injury worry.

Not sure where the injury issues come from either.
Missed 10 games last season, but that's about it across 4 seasons.
2011/12 - played 33 out of 38 PL games
2012/13 - played all 38
2013/14 - 5 Championship games for Wigan, 34 PL games for Everton
2014/15 - played 28 PL games

Maybe he simply plays consistently with a niggle or two. That's not really uncommon though, is it.

Ridiculous how people want Rabiot just because he's younger. We've got enough youth, especially in CM, we should sign players on current ability and McCarthy is better as well as more suited. He's more experienced and he's still hardly old! In fact, he's the perfect age imo

edmonton on the 11m we got from the sale of brook house being earmarked for transfers: surprisingly that bit is actually true
Wow, I didn't think there was ever a chance that was true.

That's a fair bit of money to add to a transfer.

Mixed feelings about Andros. I'm mostly frustrated with him when he's playing, and it seems he's too limited to really make a mark for us. On the other hand he does seem to really like the club and has been brought up through the ranks, and watching players with those kind of traits in our first team last season made me fall in love with the club all over again.

When it comes to Rabiot, it is not ridiculous to prefer him. What is ridiculous is to suggest that it's only about his age. That's extremely far from the truth.
