I actually read it as well as McCarthy being lined up but that he still wasn't our priority choice.

Who knows, think we could still be in for a couple of surprises this window...

Only way it could be taken that way IMO was if JJ didn't fancy the other DM option and was a McCarthy fan. Or as mentioned by someone else the person reading it doesn't want McCarthy.

Why do people think McCarthy is experienced? I know he looks like he's had a hard life (the same as Rooney looked 40 when he was 17), but he's actually the same age as Mason

because he is? wigan, everton, tons of experience as a starter and playing at a high level just because you are young it doesn't mean you can't be experienced or plays like a experienced pro. just look at courtois for example

Good question, it was just my first impression-not sure now reading back.

But Jasper makes it sound like we aren't too concerned about him and JJ says that he wants us but doesn't really give concrete views that we feel the same.

Must be the people who don't rate McCarthy looking for something that isn't there IMO.

It reads as if we have a first choice option that we would be excited by, but that if that doesn't happen McCarthy is on the cards.

McCarthy is itching to come to us. My own opinion based upon certain snippets is we wouldn't want to pay what Everton would want, but does not mean a deal cannot be done. Guess what? They really want Azza (A Lennon). It is how much we value Azza against what cash we are prepared to offer on top for McCarthy (Macca). Makes me laugh when Martinez says he does not need to balance the books. Has he spoken to Bill? He thrives on keeping in the black. If he for example got offered good money for Macca he would take it and stress to Martinez why he had to take the offer and would have a couple of players for him to choose at a good price. In other words Bill trades a player, brings another in and still in profit.

To me it reads like we have interest in McCarthy, but that interest comes with financial limitations, and maybe injury worry.

If you read back through, Jasper makes it sound like there's no way we'd be willing to meet their asking price, but then his next update talks about Lennon and a deal being done that way.

JJ has admitted that McCarthy was the one he was wrong about, so its pretty clear that we're interested if we've sounded out his interest - with him being very keen.

He also said the other night about it being interesting in terms of how this pans out - ie negotiations and Everton being 'tricky' to deal with.

Also JJ said Jasper's info was a bit wayward regarding price. Implying we're not as put off as he makes out.

I'm itching for him NOT to come, I think he'd add nothing, certainly not enough to challenge top 4. I'd much rather rabiot. Think it's a case of going safe cause prem experience and worried about gambling on a potentially much better overseas player now the one decent prem experienced one has gone In Morgan.

I think @mrpink and myself are definitely going off of JJ comments/info as much. I agree the Jasper ITK in isolation looks like we have a more exciting prospect we are working on. Which could be true but maybe more unlikely than Jasper's sources are letting on.

I guess I place more stock in JJ's info, so my interpretation is different. Not a slight on Jasper's info of course.

I think @mrpink and myself are definitely going off of JJ comments/info as much. I agree the Jasper ITK in isolation looks like we have a more exciting prospect we are working on. Which could be true but maybe more unlikely than Jasper's sources are letting on.

I'd be very surprised if we weren't keeping an eye on Kramer.

My guess is that we've got various deals on the go for a DM/CM and McCarthy is just one of those.
