It's not that we care about that club losing the money (at least not in my case), it's that we believe that such a significant outlay implies a large role for the player in question when we genuinely believe that he should not in fact, if he came, be more than a 4th or 5th choice option for midfield.

That's one way of looking at it. Another is if we want to fight for the title or CL success, a squad player, no matter how significant/insignificant he is, will cost more than if a run of the mill team were signing him. As I said, the financial aspect shouldn't be of any concern to fans unless they're aware of a limited budget in place. If they think he's a waste because JJ's better or he's too injury prone, that's fair enough.

Oh, also, I noticed in the Liverpool game earlier that they seem to have our assistant physio there, Zaf Iqbal. I enquired and was told that he left after he and Harry had a falling out because of the bad diagnosis of Woodgate's injury. Not sure if thats common knowledge or not but thought I might as well mention it (resists the urge to put a shrug in)

Who the hell is Reda Johnson?!

weren't there reports back end of last season of Plymouth having some really talented youngster? (it wasn't Johnson, but I forget his name...)

I'm impressed with the amount of people on here who are personally funding Parker's potential move to Spurs. Absolutely nobody knows how much we have to spend. Fair enough if you believe JJ is a better option, but why people keep on going on about his fee and wages I have no idea. If we spend 50m on, say, Remy, KJH, Nzogbia and Richards (for instance), why wouldn't Levy add another 10 for Parker, especially considering if we did buy those players, we'd probably be selling (guess) Pav, Keane, JJ, maybe even Bentley or GDS, which would give us maybe 35m ish.

People should stop worrying about fees and wages like they're paying them, unless Levy comes out and says we have a very restricted budget and can't spend more than 30m, in which case I'd understand peoples' concerns re signing Parker when we have limited funds available.

I blame Football Manager

Cue indignant posts saying i've never played it in my life

We are paying them- it's called ticket prices.

i play fm, not that much tbh but it baffles me how ppl can say that we shouldnt worry about the financial implications of buying players. ofcourse we should worry, fair enough its not our money but its our club and that money could go towards better investment.. not a shit, injury prone, relatively old (i say that in relation to spending 15mill on a 29 year old whos only made 3 years of their natinal team), bollox midfeilder. sorry to repeat what i said in my earlier post but, honestly...

if its all about improving the squad then you cap it off at a sensible level, not £10m+ ffs. there's players in other leagues who offer a whole lot more for less than that price and wages.

I don't believe that Levy would spend big on Parker, he knows that he'd have near enough no resale value and isn't a level above the players we have at the club - infact he's a level below imo. My guesstimation would be £8m max DL would be willing to spend on him, and I don't think West Ham would accept that. He's worth more to West Ham than the money he can command.

Daily mail now saying Parker will sign his 5 year contract at WHU, completely at odds with the latest itk. Does back up the Remy info though

That's the key. To West Ham he's worth £20m, to us he's worth £5m tops.

We're just not going to be able to find an agreeable arrangement, even if their board weren't already so precious about us continuing to cherry pick their best players.

I'm not worried about it at all. I honestly couldn't give a flying fuck how much we pay for a player or what he earns.

However.

I doubt I would be quite so flippant about it if we didn't have Levy in charge. But we have and I trust him to do what's right by the club. He's earned that trust which in turn means I have the luxury of talking like a carefree knobhead.

Have to leave the decisions up to Harry, I'm sure he knows what he's doing.

Having said that we were better off before he joined us - at least we had two points then!!

That old chestnut  You think the prices will be cheaper if we didn't sign Parker? We'll just sign someone else nobody rates instead, the prices will increase regardless.

Exactly. We're not Leeds and we're nowhere near any kind of financial meltdown judging by our last few annual accounts. We're a well run top team and have a very astute businessman at the helm. If Harry wants Parker and Levy ok's it, that means the club can afford it. No problems.
