I saw Bess play quite a bit for Sidmouth in the Devon Premier League and he hardly stood out at that standard.
Sounds like a ringing endorsement!! To be fair plenty of pros over the years play for this side and that. Some smash it and many others just go through the motions

As said by those that rate him he’s still only 24 but I’m really struggling to see him suddenly turning into a top international test spinner

Some cricketers do mature later but that’s more to do with lifestyle and mentality like Flintoff etc. Bess seems very switched on, sensible and mature beyond his years so I just can’t see a switch suddenly being flicked turning him from an ordinary county spinner into a top class operator

Archer wont play again this year, already confirmed.

For me Archer is one of, if not the best, one day fast bowler in world cricket. He naturally mixes up his pace all the time which makes him so difficult to face when runs are required in the one day format

He’s still good at test level but nowhere near the same bowler because he doesn’t like bowling flat out

If ever a bowler was wasting his natural talent and energy running in to bowl at Test matches, it’s Archer

Manage him properly. Stick to the one day stuff

Three test series are a bit of a token gesture aren’t they. Can’t really get into a proper battle!!

Shame

That is a ridiculous schedule. Why are the ECB trying to kill their cricketers?

One thing I've noticed a lot of spin bowlers do during their run-ups, and that's blow into the fists. That's bonkers, right? Are they all copying each other for no apparent reason?

For the love of god this is ridiculous!
Scrap the tug matches against India, move the first ODI against SA forward a week and put in a four test series with maybe three odi’s and/or T20’s against NZ
How can you have a summer where we only play two three test series?!?

The eight one-dayers against India are just a blatant cash-grab by ECB because they know that the grounds will be packed. Eight matches in 14 days.
No regard at all for the welfare of the players.

Absolutely 100%. A blatant 'cash-grab' with the players baring the brunt of an insane schedule. I'm not sure what we can expect from the players with the people running the ECB determining their playing schedules, but we live in eternal hope that the players can confound their administrators.

Blame the BCCI as well. They are happy to prostitute their players for a few extra rupees. It's very similar to the Brazilian FA who send their players wherever Nike want them to play.

If players on central contracts are concerned about their welfare they could always choose to skip one of the IPL, BBL, or Hundred.

Confirmed that Buttler is straight back in as vice captain, so it’ll be between Bairstow and Pope. Pope might have just edged it after the Oval.

Think this will be a spinning wicket especially with all the weather, if Ashwin plays we are toast.

I think that's pretty much a given. He hasn't been involved at all in the previous four tests and his game is perfect for the O/T wicket.

Does anyone know how the LV County Championship works this season? I've just checked the table and it says that Middlesex are bottom after playing 10 matches but there's another table that says they're top after having played 3 matches.
Are my eyes deceiving me?

The County Championship has been split into two phases - a group stage and then a division stage. In the group stage, the teams were split into three groups of six with the top two from each group progressing into Division One, 3rd & 4th placed going into Div Two, and the bottom two going into Div Three. Middx finished bottom of their group so as it stands Middx are the king of the shit teams.
