so predictable. england's jellyfish spine shown up again. All the negativity when smith was batting has come back to bite big time tbh. you can't say it's not deserved. twice they've had this game in the palm of their hands and twice they've fucked it.

Root is so over rated in this country! Pundits always compare him to Smith, Kohli and Williamson. I’m afraid he isn’t in there league as batsman. He is a decent player but not world class as those three are.

Maybe he could be as good as them if he just concentrates in his batting and gives up the captaincy as he really isn’t a very good captain

What’s the betting stokes will be last man standing? He’s pretty much the only one who’s got any cahoonas in this team.
Think I’m going to have a look at the odds for a 3 or 4 nil Aussie win.

Can't help but think the county game is far too week on the red ball front. Too much white ball cricket is played because it makes more money, and now there's the entirely pointless '100' league which defies logic! Invest in the red ball game, not creating new franchise cricket events to try and compete with the Big Bash/IPL etc

What a difference having a quality spinner playing.
Our only hope is a wicketless session, get to tea only 4 down. Let's face it though, that ain't gonna happen :grumpy:

As galling as this is, it's what everybody knew was going to happen unfortunately. Worse than this is the next match is at Lords where we have beaten Australia once in about 400 years.

Why are the pundits so obsessed with the idea that Root is one of the top 4 best batsmen in the world? Saying there was nothing he could do but it was the only shot to guarantee the short leg had a chance

Time to defend with their lives. No runs scored, 300 balls delivered, last man in at 7pm tonight...

Nah - game over

With Root it is a case of pre captaincy and post captaincy. His game looks hindered these days, maybe under the pressure of responsibility.

Buttler and Roy should be nowhere near a test side.
Johnny Bairstow also is another white ball specialist IMHO

My team for next Test:

Burns
Roy
Root
Denly
Buttler
Stokes
Foakes (w)
Woakes
Archer
Broad
Leach
not a bad shout, but still time for Bairstow to redeem himself. Roy deserves another chance, but not sure about Denly - could be between him and Bairstow.

If Bairstow redeems himself then I'd be ok with him at 4 instead of Denly. He needs to be as far away from the gloves as possible though because he is a fucking dogshit wicket keeper.
