I said it as a joke, it's getting serious now. He's looked a lot better than Jennings & Burns.

The test team look a shambles right now.

Our best looking opener, batted at 11 yesterday (great effort from Leach, gutted he couldn't make his ton). Our captain is running his own batsmen out, and Bairstow seems to be a walking wicket, as long as the balls straight. Now Mo has to find some batting form he hasn't shown for years.
At least Roy made a few runs. The rest looks a mess.

Roy didn't convince me either, at least not as an opener. Perhaps at 4, like some have suggested, but he can't be going so heavy handed at a swinging red ball as an opener.

The team is indeed a mess.

Oh Root, Ffs, run out denly, then that. Moeen cannot be relied upon to bat. And the bloke who looked like he'd saved our embarrassment wont even be in the team next week.

It’s simple for Root now. Win the Ashes or lose the captaincy. I’ve never seen a player regress so dramatically after gaining the captaincy. Joke of a performance once again.

Even with a good start we can spectacularly collapse. Will always be at the back of the mind during the ashes.

I’m really, really going to need someone to explain to me why Sam Curran, with us being 8 down, has given his wicket away so idiotically when we only have a 170 run lead...

Partly because it's the way he is most comfortable batting, but mainly because Broad and Stone are not likely to hang around long, so he had to make runs before he was left high and dry with no more partners.

Curran is a very, very useful batsman down the order. However he's predominantly a bowler, and his bowling perhaps is what may keep him out of the team.

As an all-rounder, he would be in direct competition with Stokes and well there's no conversation about that.

Assuming Archer & Anderson are fit, it's then between Broad and Curran for the 3rd seamer role, and I'd still rather have Broad against the Aussie left handers than Curran at this stage.
