Based on what? Since AVB has been in charge we have played 4-4-2, 4-4-1-1, 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3. He's hardly tactically inflexible.

In fact, he's probably the most tactically flexible manager we've ever had.

so tactically flexible that watching Spurs these days is as exciting as watching paint dry :D

Midfielder Sandro insists Tottenham are capable of beating anyone in the Premier League – including their next opponents Manchester City.

Andre Villas-Boas’ side slumped to a 1-0 defeat to Newcastle at White Hart Lane on Sunday, losing ground on the top four.

Sandro has vowed that there is more to come from Spurs but he insists they must prove their mettle by beating City after the international break.

“I believe we can win at City because if we play well ourselves we can beat any team. We are a good team,” Sandro said.

“You have to win consecutive matches,” he added.

“Like from now, to win five games consecutively for this dream to come back. This defeat to Newcastle was s***. Now it is the time to go to Manchester City and beat them.”

We are capable of beating anyone, no doubt, but we are also capable of being beaten by anyone too presently.....

Anything along those lines, obviously first names are what I'd prefer to see. We should be setting up like that and rotating those players between the prem and cup games. Also wouldn't mind a 4-2-3-1 with Paulinho and Capoue sitting and any 3 out of Erikson, Lamela, Holtby and Townsend in front with Soldado as striker

No it doesn't. We play the same formation as Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal, Real Madrid and they are all a lot more exciting than us to watch.

Just pointing to the formation is a very simplistic way of looking at things. Tinkering around with a few arrows and placing players names in a pretty pattern might work on Football Manager 2014 but in reality it takes more than that to make a team 'exciting' to watch.

FM got rid of the arrows. My teams are no longer exciting to watch.

Formation affects tactics and selection. Saying formation has no effect is rediculous

Maybe I'm just feeling outrageously optimistic today but I think everything could come right for us at Citeh.
Our form's better away from home, this season, and Citeh certainly won't park the bus against us.
Even if they don't actually expect to beat us, they'll want to try - no point going for the draw. To have any chance of winning the league they can't afford to drop any points at home.
This should make the game a bit more open and allow our attacking players a bit more space to get there shit together.
I'm unsure whether to play one or two defensive midfielders. My natural instincts are to just play one but the voice in my head says "Citeh away, with all their money-backed attacking talent, we need to keep it tight.".
So, assuming we've got everyone fit, either

Chadli Soldado Lamela
Holtby Sandro Dembele
Rose Vertonghen Kaboul Walker
Lloris
Or
Chadli Soldado Lamela
Capoue Holtby Sandro
Rose Vertonghen Kaboul Walker
Lloris
Edited after Eriksen's injury

It's not 'rediculous'. The reason we are not exciting to watch is our current application of the formation.

Unless you're telling me that Bolton's 433 under Big Sam was sexy football or Stokes 442 under Pulis was thrilling?

Seeing all the negative comments about Townsend and how many teams in this thread, and elsewhere, that don't have him in will no doubt mean he will play a coupld of blinders for England! AvB will then again be in the predicament of potentially dropping the media's golden boy....awkward

One way or the other we need width on both sides if we are going to hit them on the break

I can't wait for us to win this one and see the 'we can win the title' threads return :D

In all seriousness I quite fancy us to do them. Big game and the players will be up for it IMO. We're due a massive performance.

Now Eriksen's out i'd bring in Holtby and stick Townsend on the left.

PLLLEEEEAAAASSEEE. Even if it doesn't work first time, I want to see that it doesn't over a period of matches. Bale made his name out there; so if he wants to fill those boots he should prove that he can play either flank too.

Mofre importantly, we desperately need the width.
