OK I know this is silly but I'd throw a spanner in the works here and play like a goalkeeper and two defenders then have three in the middle and five up top.

I think a 2 3 5 formation would fuck them up and pep wouldn't know how to deal with it and basically befuddled or bedazzled... It's one of the two I don't know.

Yes we will concede of course we will but we will score too... We will outscore them.

Going on certain availability.

.........................Lloris.......,................

Walker........Toby..........Jan.....Davies

..............Wanyama.....Winks...........,.

Lamela................Dele..............Son..

…………………Janssen……............

First sub Nkoudou

Edit: also think that having 3 players returning from injury (Rose Dembele Dier) in one go could cause a little liability.

As I just said in the GKN thread, I don't believe playing Son up top is the answer, even if Janssen isn't quite firing on all cylinders. He's not a point man and does his best work playing off the striker or wide where he can ghost in or pick up the ball deeper to run at players. Regardless, he's the first name on the team sheet as far as offence goes considering he's in goalscoring form.

Whether to play Janssen up top is the question. I don't think he's played badly, just needs to score. Shades of Soldado really, who used to put on decent performances but couldn't score for shit because he either fluffed his lines or spent half his time not in the #9 positions. Albeit I think there's more to Janssen's game that suits the PL than Soldado.

I understand your point about VJ entirely, however, I really think he is doing okay, because unlike Soldado, who just went missing, Vince is at least providing assists, and bringing other players into the game.

Kane for example, is an out and out scorer, probably will get around 1 assist a season, but might score 25 as a result. Vince might only score 10-15, but the way he plays might help bring Eriksen, Son, Lamela, Alli etc, 10 a piece, which I think is great balance.

Some people may laugh at me for this... But look at Heskey for example. Yes, on paper his goal scoring record is fairly poor, but I reckon the amount of goals and chances he created for Owen and other people because of his style of play makes up for it entirely!

NOTE: I am not comparing Janssen to Heskey, just saying that people getting on his back for not scoring may need to look a little harder and see that the way he plays does contribute to the team scoring goals, even if he himself isn't directly scoring them.

I fear we will consider going back to the Dier-Wanyama combo. Hopefully not.

On the other hand I think we should drop Alli. He is annoying me more and more. When he is not scoring or assisting he is pretty useless as he is not good enough overall (yet). Sounds a bit harsh on the young guy, but he needs a rest and work harder with more concentration when given the chance.

It is a risk but I would start Winks next to Wanyama if Dembele is not fit. Sit a bit deeper and hit them on the counter with Winks providing fast forward passing.
Nkoudou in this case on the left to provide the pace with Son upfront. Wouldn't have aproblem with Janssen because he will get more space this time but I'd probably choose:

---------------Lloris----------------
Walker-Toby----Jan----Rose*--
---------Wanyama--Winks------
Lamela-----Eriksen----NKoudou
---------------Son----------------

Subs: Vorm, Wimmer, Dier, Davies, Alli, Janssen, Onomah

*If not ready Davies and Trips on the bench

Im not alone then. Been advocating for this. Too much dilly dallying and delaying passes as he doesnt know what to do or where to pass, then subsequently loses the ball

Walker Alderweireld Vertonghen Davies
Wanyama Dembele
Lamela Eriksen Son
Janssen

Vorm, Rose, Dier, Winks, Dele, Sissoko, N'Koudou

With De Bryne out if Dembele is fit I think we've got a massive chance to win this game. Sadly don't think Rose will be ready to start. Even if we're losing having Dele and N'Koudou coming on think we can get something from this late on.

Journalists will ask the questions at the presser. You can't really fob them off, they need their copy before the game. I don't think Poch will be negative, hiding his team anyway. As Pep previously said about Poch, he doesn't wait for you to come to him, he comes for you.
Have you seen Poch's pressers? He will tell them nothing, only that the players must be assessed before taking any decisions.

I'm sorry, I cant let this go on any longer without saying something. Why are people STILL putting Wimmer in their teams over Vertonghen? It can't be made any clearer that Jan is miles ahead of Wimmer on the depth chart and Wimmer is now likely 4th on it. So, again I ask. Why? Especially since Vertonghen has largely been fantastic this season and has been the better of the 2 CB's thus far(which is no knock on Toby, btw). It really seems like people here just arent paying attention this season and are letting their personal vendettas get in the way of rational thought. Mind boggling. I like Wimmer but this is ridiculous now. Jan Vertonghen is first choice LCB.

Son needs to stay on the left! (If he plays)

Very much a nominal position. Last night he pretty much went where we wanted, left right or centre.

Cant drop lamela, these are the kinds of games he thrives in.

I actually think lately he's been far better coming off the bench.

Apart from Lamela I agree with this.

All three maybe but you've started none of them. If Dembele is fit he has to start. The others can wait.

Just a reminder: Erik Lamela was voted Man of the Match in two of the three previous encounters against City and in the third encounter came off the bench and won the game for us with a fantastic through ball to Eriksen. He loves to play against them. He also has 6 assists already this season. 100% no brainer to start this.
