I know Son has a great record against them, and his pace is a major asset with their high line but there's no doubt he's struggling at the moment and we need some rotation anyway. Could be a key man to come on and do some damage.

Let's get to grips with how City are playing this season etc

Lloris

Romero
Dier
Davies

Royal
PEH
Bentancur
Perisic

Kulusevski
Kane
Richarlison

Subs: Forster, Sanchez, Lenglet, Spence, Sess, Bissouma, Son

We simply have to rest Son. I see people saying we need to keep playing him until he scores, but that doesn't make sense. What happens when he scores - then we drop him? Also, the word "drop" is not appropriate, it is rest or rotate. It is Son's turn to sit one out, and we'll be much more dynamic and effective with Richarlison and Kulusevski either side of Kane as in-form players. Son can come on after 70 minutes and use his pace against tired legs. I also think we need Sessegnon's fresh legs on the left. I was going to suggest starting Davies as he has been regularly effective defensively against this City team, but thought he looked like a mistake waiting to happen last night (he made two that could have cost us a goal in his fifteen minutes on the pitch). Oh, and do not let Kane take free-kicks.

Lloris
Romero -- Dier -- Lenglet
Royal -- Højbjerg -- Bentancur -- Sessegnon
Kulusevski -- Kane -- Richarlison

Going by Conte's statement last night that we have to rotate, I reckon he will go with:

lloris
Sanches Dier Davies
Doherty PEH Bentancur Sess
Deki Kane Son

I think Cuti has not completely recovered from his injury yet and needs resting. Sanches is probably our best shot at marking Haaland.
Royale has been playing all of our games and also needs some resting. Doherty is fresh and can do a decent job there.
Perisic needs a breather and can come on later as an impact sub for Sess.
The biggest headache conte has is for the three upfront. I know Son is having a very lean period but he can be a very useful weapon with his speed against City. I also believe that Conte will not employ both Kane and Ritchie at City and Deki really deserves to start.

I think it was smart of Conte to take off Romero early last night because we need his ability against City, I think Perisic needs to be managed carefully as much as I'd love him to play, Sessegnon seems to do well in these games, Davies is also I think is more prepared for this challenge than Lenglet currently, I think Lenglet has done well so far but I feel he still isn't as mobile as he can be due to lack of game time.

Lastly as harsh as it is on Kulusevski and Son has not been on good form, I don't think this is the scenario where Son should be benched. City play a high line and there is nobody better in our squad more suited to take advantage of their approach than Son, these are the situations he typically thrives, he has an excellent record against them. I don't think a combination of Richarlison and Kulusevki gives us our best chance of beating them because they're not as capable of the devastating breaks that Son is, I think this is his game. Very good problem to have though having to pick 3 from these 4.

Why bother? I can already tell who Conte will play.

An unchanged lineup from last night except maybe Sess for Perisic.

He speaks a lot about rotation but he hardly does it.

Sounds like theres a real possibility that there will not be a game this weekend. Temporarily assuages our rotation issues.

I wouldn't drop Perisic myself, I'd prefer him over Sess every time, and especially because of his mastery of corners and without Sonny, that's going to be essential.

I quite like that team. Could play Deki in a deeper role too maybe instead of one of the MFs

If the Queen passes, it seems possible that PL will postpone this weekend's games (and maybe next week, depending on the timing of the funeral).
Surely it will be black arm bands and a minutes silence. Cancelling football would be ridiculous.

I know what you mean but I guess the whole country will come to a standstill, they’ll cancel everything and with the tens of thousands (possibly hundreds) of people flocking to London to mourn (and the security arrangements that would be needed) kinda means they have little choice. Is annoying though.

Might get pelters for this but City are scared shitless of Sonny, him not starting them gives them an extra lift before KO. Davies in for his solidity in the back 3. Royal at some point has to get a rest, Doc and Kulu have a good understanding from last season and Docs runs inside will cause City a ton of issues. Sess has done it in big games for us under Conte already.

Lloris
Romero Dier Davies
Doc PEH Bentancur Sess
Kulu Kane Son

Richy on after 60/70 minutes when we're ahead and need to shithouse. Harsh after his performances. But makes him hungrier.

Doherty will also defend the back post better against Haaland peeling off one of the CBs for headers. I'd also play Lenglet as he's bigger than Davies.
