Lamela has 16 assists since the beginning of last season (more than anyone in the squad). He creates more chances than anyone else and I can list countless through balls he's played that have created golden chances for others the last 2+ seasons. No one else has his creativity in the squad.

Furthermore, he won the City match for us last season away and was voted Man of the Match by the posters here in the previous two encounters before that. Absolutely ridiculous that people somehow think he shouldn't be starting this match. He just created the winning goal against CSKA and put two other golden chances on a plate for Son.

He should be our number one choice for the centre AM position, no one comes close in our team to his through ball creavity - his weight of pass and eye for one is top level, he is way more productive with the ball in that position than Eriksen and it's where he excels for me. Son on the left, Lamela in the middle and down to Poch who deserves it most to start on the right.

Agree, we should definitely play Lamela down the middle more - however, for this game and with Sissoko out, I can see Poch playing safe with Lamela on the right, Son on the left and Eriksen in the middle

So does Alli really miss out for this? As much as think he should I doubt Poch agrees with me. Unfortunately I can see Lamela missing out - which I think is a massive mistake.

Don't want to be a pedant but Eriksen, on average, created the most amount of chances for us last season and both he and son have created more than Lamela this.

Ali in fact on average has created only 0.2 less chances a match than Erik this season too so while I don't disagree that Lamela is an important player for us the first half of your post is not only factually inaccuracte but it also does a disservice to some incredibly talented players who we have in our squad.

But do those stats take into account attempted created chances. Eriksen plays so many through balls a game that i would say 10% of them are successful, he can be very wastefull in the final third, not by looking at stats but by watching these players over the last couple of years i think it's very difficult to argue that Eriksen is better than Lamela at that killer ball. The amount of chances Lamela creates that don't turn into goals is very large as well, he could easily have 5 more assists each year.

Don't get me wrong, i like Eriksens football brain and he is a great passer of the ball, i just feel no one in our squad is close to Lamela for that magic pass and he deserves a run in the center spot where he can maximise damage against the opposition.

Where are you getting your statistics from for this season? Per Squawka, this season Lamela creates more chances per 90 than Eriksen, Son, and Alli in both CL and PL games. The disparity in CL games between Lamela and Alli is nearly 4 to 1.

Softboy? What the fuck are you on about mate? Are you living in the past? He's arguably the most aggressive player in the team.

And as for what he brings to the table- he created the 6th most chances in the PL last season.

I never used to be a fan of Lamela but this is bang on. He is probably the most improved player under Poch.

My apologies.... I'm using the key passes stat on whoscored.com
