Henry has actually stated he'd never sign for us so there's not even the suggestion of a story here.
With all due respect why would anyone take Henry on his word?
I don’t think this is a possibility, it’s a non starter even more ridiculous then the Ronaldhino story. However I don’t feel anything Henry has gone on record as saying as having the slightest bearing on any situation.
I believe he would do what is best for him in terms of money and whatever other factors he deems important. If he was desperate to come back to London and neither Arsenal nor Chelsea wanted him the only other potential destinations were/are us and West Ham
That is all talksport were saying and discussion, from a purely hypothetical standpoint, it was never presented as a 'story' by which I mean no one was suggesting that Henry was coming to Spurs or that he or us were interested.
It was more a discussion as to Henry's age and position in his career that if he were to come back who would be prepared to take him, one pundit was suggesting the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea would still want him while the other was suggesting his age would limit his options to looking below clubs in the top tier.
The points for discussion on the show and which I intended to introduce here also were more to do with the relationship between us and Arsenal i.e. would we accept an ex Gooner
It was presented on the Radio that SPurs fans would never accept him (if hypothetically he came and was still a major force) because he was an ex goon, where as I was of the opinion such a scenario would sting the fans of Arsenal (seeing their legend playing for us)
The topic went in an entirely different direction to which I intended (probably due to my not expressing the point well enough for the point to be established) with people answering a question more like should we/will we sign Henry when this was not meant to be the case.
The points of the phone in and what I wanted this thread to be about were....
If Henry were to come back to the EPL would he still be wanted by the top four?, if not who else would want him, where would he go and what factors would effect this? (His daughter was being used as a major factor in him wishing to be in or near London)
What would be the SPurs fans reaction IF this happened (note this is hypothetical not a suggestion it could or would occur)
Finally it went on to our ability to attract 'marquee' players and that we haven’t done so since Klinsmann more than a decade ago.
Even the Talksport presenters were saying they couldn't see him signing for Spurs, although one playing Devils advocate said that if he was determined to come to London and both Chelsea and Arsenal had no interest in this event were to coincide with Berbatov leaving (thus creating a need for a top class striker at SPurs) We would then become the only viable option along with West Ham (although not really viable for numerous other reasons...mostly revolving around his ties to Arsenal)
Personally I thought the Arsenal/SPurs discussion to be somewhat interesting as it seems to me that if a player were to leave us and end up with them they would more likely to be happy and laughing at us (should that player be of suitable quality i.e. Berbatov)
Whereas it seemed if the reverse were to occur we would reject the signing because of this Arsenal tie rather then embrace it as an F you to Arsenal.
