it's certainly a spurs type signing and will push Dier to up his game as the RCB

Especially when you see he only has 12 months left on his contract, there seems to be a bidding war over Keane and Gibson just signed a new deal. From what I've seen I think I like him most too.

Yep. Dier would cover/competition for Wanyama. Winks is cover/competition for Dembele.

There's a couple of doubts over Dier as a CB. 1) Reports are suggesting he wants to play in midfield. 2) Tough to say as he is English, young and a very popular player but he's probably our weakest CB. Against the top sides, he does get caught out. Has a lot to learn and time on his side but if point 1 is true, maybe we need to get another CB in.

I totally agree. Haven't been impressed by Gibson. Ever since Boro have opened up a bit, he's been exposed and has struggled badly. Keane looks a very good player but IMO not as comfortable in possession as Maguire which is what we need from our CBs.

I think it's been said by many people on here for a while we could benefit from a grizzled campaigner, someone who knows all the dark arts and how to get over the line.

Those kind of winners who still have
the quality and the legs for the PL don't come about too often though, and when they do, they don't come cheap.

I'd settle for a younger version of Scott Parker

Wimmer hasn't had a look in and could very well leave. Carter Vickers hasn't had a sniff. There are not plenty of games to go round when the top players want to be involved in everything and the lesser ones want to further their careers. We won't pay the wages to keep good prospects happy enough warming the bench either. Can't see it. It's different with a player like Winks who gets a fair bit of time off the bench, but CBs generally don't get to come off the bench unless something has gone wrong.

Going to be interesting to see who RM sell in the summer. Now that Asensio is, rightly, getting more game time, somebody will need to be sold. James is probably most likely but who knows. Feel sorry for Bale, he has only played 27 games this season for RM completing 90 mins only 10 times. Think a lot of RM fans want to get rid of him.

Also rumours that Crystal Palace want 40 mil for Zaha, thats insane but in their day and age maybe not that surprising.

TBH I can somewhat understand their thinking. He hasn't impressed me with some of his recent performances.

He looks 'burdened' if you catch my drift, he looks just a bit slower and less willing to do the defensive work required in the matches I've seen. I'm not sure if it's a mental or physical issue but the guy looks like things are getting on top of him and he's not sure how to fight his way out of it.

No reason we couldn't pick up a Gallas somewhere along the way. High wages and no resale value, but was good to have him for that first CL campaign. Making an exception for such a player wouldn't mean making a rule.

I agree but I can't either Levy or Poch wanting that to happen.

Needs to shift all that muscle and stop trying to be Ronaldo. Also get a shave. Also a haircut. Lose the hairband while you're there.

I agree with al of that, especially the first point. I think he's bulked up too much and effectively unbalanced himself and lost some agility.

Cant fault Palace for wanting to cash in. He's shown his whole career thus far(about 200+ games worth) that this season is really whats called a purple patch. Try to get alot for him now before he comes back to earth.

If that's the case, then he probably doesn't want to come back to the Prem, particularly not into a Poch team. Shame, though.

Just seen that report in the Times - fucking hell.

And you're surprised by it? They got £27m for bolasie last season, Zaha's having a more productive season than bolasie ever had and is younger, plus the fees go up season on season at the moment. I said earlier in the thread I don't see us paying what it would take to get him, be surprised if we'd pay £40m for him

I get what you are saying about CBs but I think someone like Maguire would be interested in the opportunity. Players back themselves to succeed, and if it doesn't work out he'd probably end up at a mid table prem team anyway 1-2 years later. If we do continue to use a 3 regularly there will be more opportunities than Wimmer had, Wimmer seemed to lose Poch's trust (somewhat unfairly IMHO).

Might be worth CCV getting a loan, but even so he has had injuries I believe which hasn't helped him.

The world and his wife have been saying how we lack squad depth, especially since Saturday, and it makes sense trying for a Maguire type who could eventually take over a few years down the line. You need at least 4 CBs. We certainly wouldn't worry about what you said, that's down to the player. To paraphrase Poch, you sign to train, you earn the right to play.
