I don't remember any new players being announced before the transfer window actually opens - I have tried thinking, but I cannot (so if anyone else can name when we have, be my guest).

Berbatov is a key player, easily our most influentual player.

Its pretty much a done thing that he has gone, so the management team need to show him that they are intent on delivering next year. So snapping up Modric, who was linked to bigger clubs than us (bigger in the sense of the level they play at - CL!!) we are showing Berba that actually it might be worth hanging around for a little while longer

was Gunter not announced before the window was opend? i know its not a big signing though

I can remember a few players being announced before the window, Teemu Tainio being one, but he was on a free.

I think it is right to say that if the club has identified any targets they want for sure who are competing in the Euros it is best to get the deal wrapped up in principal before it starts rarther then risk them shine and be putting on a level of clubs wanting them we cant compete with (or just make the price sky rocket)

As all deals are subject to a medical if they get a major injury we can flop the deal (although Im sure the medical would be completed before the Euros commenses making my last point totally irrelevant)

It is a certain percentage of something, anal income or something like that, anything over that has to be declaired, so the mroe cash a club has, the higher the price has to be befor they have to declair it
