What the heck has happened to steed in recent months he has been next to useless and a liability. I have read some people's criticism of lennon on his final ball which I admit isn't great, but steed gets praised so much on this site I can't believe he had a good first half of the season where most of the team underperformed but now he gives the ball away to easily and a lot of the time he tries to beat one more man than he is capable of. While Steed defensively is lucky not have been sent off for some of the challenges he puts in. At the moment in most matches he is the weakest link in the midfield.

I do tend to agree. It's only because Malbranque works hard that he escapes any harsh criticism. The guy has ability, but his passes are rarely weighted correctly and seldom does he try and whip a ball in with his left foot. I would, however, say that he is not a natural left-winger and, therefore, being played out of position hasn't helped his cause. He's ok, but we can improve on him, just like in every other position across the middle.

The simple reason he's gone to pot is because my husband said he wanted a Steed shirt! Last time he said he wanted a players top, I got him a Robbo one (start of last season) and look at what happened there! He is a jinx!

He's recently said that Adebayor's his favourite player (being sarcastic of course!) and since then Arsenal haven't won, and he hasn't scored (Ithink!). Jinx is working!! Who shall he jinx next?

Get him to buy a Chimbo shirt. It could be the straw that breaks the guy and he skulks off to a fat Nuke contract.

Yeah he's definitely gone off the boil. Some of it has to come down to tiredness. He has played most of the games this season (actually on looking he has played the most number of games out of the squad). so there you go. Needed a few rests earlier in the season to keep him fresh for the whole season

A club official did say that he saw someone with an SC T-shirt walking out of the changing rooms after being seen putting something in Steed's drink, then rubbing their hands together gleefully whilst whispering to himself 'mwahaha, now let's see you get the player of the year above my beloved Dimitar...'

But yeah, his form has dropped quite dramatically over the last 6 weeks or so. Still giving 100% though in his defensive work.

Steed's shooting is poor. He gets and rarely converts a lot of half chances. We looked like crap in the beginning of the year so anyone working hard naturally was going to look better than everyone else. He's the worst player in our Starting XI. Sorry. Its true. I like him, good squad player and he's playing out of position, but come on. Our left side makes me cry. It has no width at all with Chimbo and Steed. What happened to Gilberto?

i have noticed he has gone off the boil recently, by his own standards, far more defensive, thus far less offensive
i still wait to see him played centrally

Paul, I know Lennon is close, but I still think he's better than Steed. The only reason I could argue otherwise is that Steed is playing out of position, but he's been there all year and that's his position with us so its all I can judge him on. I'd love to see Adel or Gilberto get some of Steed's time. I know everyone loves Steed and I expect some shtick for slagging off on him, but I don't think being industrious alone warrants credit. Not in a squad that's supposed to be challenging for higher honors. I mean people say Lennon's final ball is poor, but Steed rarely gets assists. I know you could say its because he's on the left, but Lennon's assist to Gilberto came from the left.

Steed rarely gets assists, sure. He only has one so far this season. Lennon has two.

Steed has 3 goals, Lennon has 2. Therefore they're even overall.

So, there must be some valid reason you rate Steed lower? It can't be that he has the 4th most tackles won in the entire Premier League. No, it can't be that.

Hmm, same attacking end product and far better defensive work. What am i missing...oh, you want to be "entertained" by a one trick pony instead. That's it, isn't it. If i'm honest, i wouldn't mind seeing Taarabt given a go either. But i'm not gonna make silly arguments as to why Steed is our worst starting player, in the same breath.

I agree that Steed's been disappointing recently. I'm surprised JOH hasn't got more game time on the left. Whether that means Steed on the right or the bench. I'd be very surprised if O'Hara wasn't given a start in the next game.

It might be that Steed is actually a poor 'impact player', who struggles to come on and quickly get the pace of the match. As Lennon will do his thing whether he starts or comes on, Ramos may believe that Steed all game is better than just an odd half an hour, where we need an instant change in tactics/direction. This is pure speculation, but would explain why Steed doesn't seem to have been rested.

Steed hasn't been as good of late as he has been throughout the season, but that post is way way over the top.

He's gone downhill slightly.

My diagnosis? he is suffering from 'lack of Young Pyo Lee syndrome'

The majority of posts have been harsh on Steed.

His performances have dipped slightly but I feel its due to burn out. The amount of running he does in matches is unreal. It's almost like he plays two positions, LM and AM.

How many times have we seen him just behind the front two, try and play a through ball, the move for some reason breaks down, and he sprints to left back win the ball back, and makes his way upfield again?

Someone else said it's only cos he's one of those who's willing to try a forward pass that it gets overly-emphasized that he loses the ball often, and I couldn't agree more. He can be as safe as the likes of Jenas, Lennon and Zokora, but he actually tries to make incisive passes that count. For all the times he loses the ball, he goes on and wins it back on his own anyway ( top five tacklers in the League?) , so that's not a problem for me.

We're not missing him as much lately cos he's gone off the boil but when he's on form he definitely offers alot. He'll be back fresh next season. Meanwhile, give O'Hara a go.

The problem is that his success rate at making those passes is not good. How many assists has he made in the league so far? I guess 5-6 times less than Young.

Gone off the boil

Before Wendy came in the kettle wasn't even on the stove.

I was one of the people who had to admit (and I did) that he'd raised his game but now, sadly, he's gone back to the same old toilet
