Was saying this at school today, I'm a teacher, that goal has made not a jot of difference other than they are 1-0 up. It makes no difference as an away goal at all. Ultimately if we cant score over 2 legs we go out. It was the case before the game and it's the case now.

Yes they were good, excellent, but I absolutely believe that with a full strength team we would beat them over 2 legs. Just that 20 minute spell of pressure last night stopped them in their tracks completely.

I'm going to say it, we are better them.

We are still in this tie and actually I think we will shock the world again and beat them next week.

With grammar like that - I assume that you teach PE? :cautious:

We would need kane and son and sissoko in top form to have a chance against barca. Then again what a true underdog story would it be, beating them with an injury ravaged squad. We just need son on form with sissoko for ajax. Time for eriksen and dele to step up,been a long time coming.

The thing with Barca, and it's a big if, is if Messi has an off day, you really have a chance. If you manage to shackle him, as tough as it is, whilst a brilliant side, they are certainly more of a one man team than most other teams are. Everything they do goes through Messi. So in a one off game, with Messi having an off day, they are beatable.

Whereas I feel with Liverpool, they have so many threats all over.

I feel Barca were impressively clinical tonight and could have won 5 nil. Liverpool played well also but couldn't finish.

The chances are we'd be ripped a new one in the CL final by Barca.

One fairly irrelevant point that the media keep highlighting is that only once has a team reversed a 0-1 deficit and gone on to get into the final.

Considering how many teams have actually won an away game at this stage 0-1 (not many) it's nothing earth shattering. I actually found a few occasions in which a team drew their home leg 1-1 and then won their away leg.

Most notable United when they beat Juventus 2-3 and Chelsea when they beat Arsenal 1-2 (QF). Some pundits are making out like it's practically impossible when in reality we just need to win which has been done by an away team on multiple occasions. Ajax lost to Madrid at home and drew with Juventus (who clearly played for an away goal) so it really isn't far reaching to suggest we can win.

Also we’ve defied more ridiculous odds already I’m sure. How many teams have ever got to a Champs League semi-final with 1 point after 3 group matches, let alone been facing exit in match day 4 with 15 minutes to go? With that in mind, beating them at the Cruyff Arena seems entirely plausible. In fact Ajax have actually achieved better results in the away legs of the knockouts so far, when their opposition has underestimated them and they’ve been the under-dog. Things are different this time. We are definitely good enough to beat them over there, we just have to hope we give a suitable performance on the night.

Well well well, Liverpool eh chortle. It doesn't mean they cant pull off an Istanbul in the return leg though.

I am worried about our Hail Mary come back in Amschterdam boys! Might as well get the bongs going now.

Goldmember: Would you like a shmoke und a pancake?
Austin Powers: A what?
Goldmember: A shmoke und a pancake. You know, a flapjack und a shigarette? No? Shigar und a waffle? No? Pipe und a crepe? No? Bong und a blintz? No? Well, then there ish no pleashing you.
Austin Powers: That's not right...

We can still do this but there were some disappointing performances out there . For their goal the defensive line was ragged think Trips and Jan keeping them on side but what exactly was Rose doing.
Dele just doesn't look up to this level just too slow and not sure Eriksen would get into this Ajax team.
What a difference Mousa made when he came on (has got my vote for player of the season) .
Next week with Mousa and Sonny in from the start we have hope , they have conceded at home but first and probably more importantly Bournemouth have to be despatched first to get CL again next season .

I agree. Alli is just too slow. He knows he can't get past players so he always tries nutmegs, or plays impossible passes to look as if he had some ideas. We really need an upgrade on him and Eriksen. The ability to beat players one on one is what opens up defences. Aguero, Sterling, Sane, Salah, Mane, B Silva, D Silva can all do that. Son isn't even that kind of player, but is the only one who ever successfully gets past a player. We need this type of player urgently to complete our attack and Eriksen and Alli are not it.

Where were you sitting then if you say the atmosphere was awful. I was in the West stand and the noise was amazing, it really reverberated around the ground. Second half I thought we really got behind the team and could hardly hear the Ajax fans.

Maybe you are right and my standards are too low but I am proud of the team. We put effort in in the second half and whilst it wasnt anywhere near our best we took the game to a team that has played both Real Madrid and Juventus off the park. Maybe it is you that should fuck off and support another team that guarantees glory and success all the time if a champions league semi final is not good enough for you.
North stand and I heard the Ajax fans clearly.

I am not saying that when we sing the atmosphere is not great because it is fantastic. It’s the silence in between that upsets me and the lack of variation in uplifting songs. There are too many South stand fans coming to watch the atmosphere and not joining in in creating it. I was in the west stand on Saturday and I noticed that the continual moaning that was evident at the old lane has not gone away. You have to lift your team not moan at them.

At away games we sing continuously. Why not at home?

It’s a shame you don’t get it and have to revert to insults to try and put your point across. I say at as I hear it in both the west stand and the south.

Have a good day

I thought the singing was good v Ajax and has generally been better home singing since we moved into the new ground but there was so much bad temper and moaning, people shouting that so and so is sh*t or a c**t and castigating our players like we losing 10-0 at home to Bolton and about to be relegated. It was a tough game because we were under pressure from a very good team- bound to the way in a CL semi final. Shame people couldn't cheer up and enjoy it- it might not happen again, plus we improved plus we are still in the tie. Fancy our chances tbh.

I agree with you re the moaning. That is annoying and that was evident on Tuesday also. Not sure we will ever shut the moaners up. Still a decent atmosphere and the noise is great when we are on top.

Anyway apologies if I insulted you, I'm just having too much wine on my flight home!

We have two finals coming up, one on Saturday and another on Wednesday. To win both these matches will be heaven. To lose both of them will be hell.

Not sure how Rose escapes criticism for his defending for their goal.
Sense, knowledge of football, the ability to read the game all these things would explain why people wouldn't criticise Rose for the goal, that and the fact that he put in a shift and a half all over the park and was as responsible as anyone for restricting it to one goal, just off the top of my head.

In our history, we’ve only played once against Ajax in Amsterdam . We beat them 3-1 over there in 1981 in the old CWC.

Hope we maintain our away record against them.

Glad I'm not the only one to question the performance of Rose in his defending .

"Tottenham Hotspur trio Dele Alli, Victor Wanyama and Danny Rose have been slammed by Barcelona legend Ruud Gullit following their display against Ajax. "

John once said that Ringo wasn't even the best drummer in The Beatles , the best left back at Spurs is Jan Vertonghen unfortunately he prefers not to play in that position.

I find it sad when a great player finishes his career and starts talking bollocks for a living, he has been doing it for years. Not that I remember him ever playing for Barcelona.
