If we were to start the season with the squad we have, we'd not be in dire straits - we could do with some cover to get us through the first month back - but this is the same squad bar one player we, other fans, pundits and everyone else was in unanoumous agreement was the best covered squad in the country because we had excellent cover for every position.

Nothing's changed bar Walker. Our squad hasn't diminshed just because a transfer window is open. Really think people need to keep that in mind.

people overreacting about the bench. just seems worse than it is because there's 11 there instead of 7 and regular subs like vorm, wimmer, winks and janssen are lost amongst all the less familiar names. you can have the greatest bench in the world but you're still only going to be able to use three of them - in a real game anyway.

This is the first time i really worry for our season start.

We have lost Walker from last years team, in addition we have no depth With Son, Wanyama, Rose and Lamela out. We have to play Sissoko as a starter, and have only Janssen and GNK on the bench to come in if needed.

At the same time all our competitors have strenghtened in good time for the start of the season. The old "we have the same team that finished second last year" don't really fly anymore considering the sale of Walker and our injuries.

Very dissapointed in Levy not getting in anyone with all of this in mind. Can see us losing badly today. Really hope I'm wrong.

I take your point, but I'm not sure it was anywhere unanimously agreed that we had the best covered squad. I heard a lot of people say we had arguably the best starting 11, but that we didn't have a lot of strength in depth when a few injuries rolled around.

I don't think we have excellent cover for every position: Janssen is far from excellent cover for a striker who's apparently going to be playing every game again this season (until he gets injured), and I really don't think we have proper cover for Eriksen. Those two are crucial.

Lamela is months away, still, and who knows what's happening with Rose. Dembele always gets injured, and Winks and Son aren't match fit. The season starts next week!

Surely we can't be relying on GKN and Sissoko to step up.

Careful your not allowed to criticise the bench or team as "we have injuries" remember....!!! We need a squad to be able to handle injuries and it is evident we don't have it, we are going into a season with a bench full of kids.... just hope we get through today with no injuries, that is all that matters now as any serious injuries before Newcastle next weekend is a real problem
