Don't recall Reto being involved. The other no-show was Mido. Apparently Mido apologised, took the fine on the chin and knuckled down, which impressed Jol. Timmy and Freddie on the other hand behaved liked tits. The whole episode was embarrassing. Because of a shortage players we actually ended up with a couple of lads from a local ex-pats team on the bench.

I'm probably misremembering, but I thought Reto's no show was the reason why he was rather mysteriously loaned out to Hamburg.

Anyway, the whole Mauritius fiasco was pretty disastrous because it is of course the reason Juande Ramos recommended to his DoF, Monchi, that Sevilla could sign an outstanding centre-forward name Fredi Kanoute on the cheap...

a little help...

I used to work out in China, and made good friends (through our legendary centre back pairing in the Xian amateur leage) with a chinese guy who was completing a sports degree in Xian. Since then he has completed a Masters at Sheffield in sports - where he studied the link between Sheffield United and the Chengdu blades for his Thesis. He is now looking for a job in sports in England. I told him about this trip and he found some information on Chinese websites about how Tottenham visited China back in Jan in order to try and emulate Sheffield's model. It would be really cool if he could get some work experience at Spurs, particularly has he might have a lot to offer in the coming months. Anyone know who is best to contact? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

It is ridiculous to think that these days premiership (or any top league) footballers should get a couple of months off during the summer.

Is there any other job in the world, which is:

A) As sweet as playing football and getting paid (ok possibly being a porn star)

AND

B) Pays so much money compared to the amount of work hours put in.

Professional footballers these days should be just that, professionals, which means like other Athletes, runners, swimmers etc... that they should maintain peak fitness at all times and be prepared to have at most only a coupld of weeks off during the year.

Damn if i only get 4 weeks holiday a year on my salary, these guys should be getting that at very most!!

I think we should play end of season matches, as well as have a sweat camp as well as a bunch of pre season games.

Of course you rotate the squad, and the emphasis is on fitness and training and avoiding injuries.

And for those lazy ******* that don't like it, then that's fine, pack your bags and lets get some professional atheletes with some determintation to be at the top of their game in, instead of past players like Mido, Reid, etc.....

Most players act like school kids, so they can only realistically play in term time.

According to Chinese websites it would appear that we are hopeful of building a relationship with Shanghai's team

Our pre-season was garbage last year and we came into the league looking way off the pace. I trust in Ramos though, so hopefully this is something he will get power of vito over if he feels it's a pointless exercise.

As long as one in five Chinese children adopt Spurs as their EPL team I think I'm OK with a quick trip to Shanghai in the summer.

Even if 10% of them bought the real one I'd be pretty chuffed if I was the Spurs Commercial Director!

I wonder how much money spurs make from tv/media sales abroad - practically every game seems to go to quite a few/many countries -

I think the prem did an updated deal recently - wonder how each individual club benefits

There are 1.5 billion people in China.

If 5% of them watch English football and then 10% of them can be converted into Spurs fans and then 10% of those buy an original shirt every season we would sell 750,000 shirts, say we make £20 profit on a shirt, then that would be £15m to spend on players.

Sounds good to me.

The vast majority of the Chinese population still live in abject rural poverty, and even in the cities it is only a tiny super-wealthy minority who can afford to pay for the status of legitimate merchandise. Everyone buys rip offs, often quite decent quality and dirt cheap. Until the Chinese authorities do something about trademark protection, which they have no intention of doing, the Chinese market is effectively worthless, as many western companies are discovering.

Short-term view ol' bean. There will be a Chinese middle class in our lifetime and it will be ENORMOUS. IP will get better one way or another.

I think there is also part of this that is about trying to capture talent. Sheffield United actually own Chengdu Blades and are I think hoping that any talent that exists in China will be drawn through to Sheffield United. We are starting to see Chinese players emerge in Britain, although I think it will take a while for them to produce any real superstars (the general standard is awful, while I was there I knew Kwame Ayew ex Sporting Lisbon and Ghana, who was playing for Xi'an's team and he said even at the highest level all the players smoked before matches!), but with over a billion of them there must be some talent. As a club we should try to be ahead in China, which is why I want my friend to be given the opportunity to help - still no idea of contacts?
