what happened 2 through thick and thin? What else would you do with your saturdays without the yids?!!!!! Think of those post season weeks, just wondering aimlessly! Snap out of it man! for the love of god!
I think I understand. I felt that way after the Arsenal debacle at WHL. Then I watched the Ruggers finals. Just as crushed.
But... supporting another team is not an option, not for me. Here's the answer- never stop supporting Spurs. Watch more Rugby. Get a new puppy. Buy a motorcycle. Download more MP3s.
However Spurs are doing at the mo it's a distraction.
Give up on Football if u wish. Something tells me if u do and at around the time Spurs are back in form u will be back. And if that is the case... some might say you were a ...glory hunter.
There is a great book by someone called Kate Fox. It's called 'Watching the English: The Hidden Rules of English Behaviour'. This book is scary because it's all true.
Anyway, in regards to football fans, she states that in England you must doggedly support the same team throughout your life even if they are a hopless and talentless team. Your loyalty should never waver however badly the team performs. There is an unwritten rule that states you pick your team at a young age and that's it, you can never switch allegiance. You can appreciate the skills and talent of other teams but that is it. Switching teams will invite ridicule and make you un-English.
Giving up on the sport pretty much goes by the same rule. You can dislike what's going on in that sport but you won't stop supporting or enjoying that sport. For example, I dislike the England football team for numerous reasons but whenever they play I will also support them. It's the same with Tottenham. Even when we were hopless during the days of Gross I went to see every game that I could because no matter what Tottenham is my team and football is my sport.
Dude, we'll be top 8 by the end of the December and qualified for the QF of Carling and knock out stages of UEFA. Some of these journo's will be laughing on the other side of their faces when the big White machine starts rolling.
All this talk after 10 games is crazy. I bet Berba finishes with 25 goals and we all love him at the end of the season. Lennon will gain fitness and start skinning players left right and centre. Oh and Keano is on for about 40 goals this season. Let's all just shill a bit.
I have those disillusioned with football periods too, kind of in one at the moment. The rugby has been such a fantastic spectacle, when it was a choice between watching rugby or footy it's been the rugby all the way lately. But I'll always love footy and especially Spurs, it's been part of my life for too long now!
I plan to watch a lot more rugby this season, get down to some Bath and Exeter games and enjoy the atmosphere - it's not as awesome as a big night at the Lane, but there's something really enjoyable about going to the rugby. I think the best thing is the relaxed vibe and the socialising with opposing fans, there's banter over a few beers, but without all the shit that goes with footy. And definitely no booing of opposition anthems! Oh and the tickets are cheaper and easier to come by too. And I can have a beer while I watch. And I can stand up.
If you even have to ask the question then there are some problems.....
But yes, Spurs till I die, no question. It's all a bit horrible at the moment, but to truely appreciate the highs, you gotta have the lows.
I could not even contemplate supporting another team. The only way I could is if Spurs ceased existing, and then I'd probably support Woking, my local team.
