I wouldnt be surprised if it was the case but it also wouldnt work at all. Anyone worth their salt can see we desperately need another striker. Son is not a striker.

To be fair, Kane aside, we need more speed, flair and quality across the front 4.

Edit: but yes, as a negotiating tactic, it only works if Berahino is considered a WF by wba.

All I'm thinking is that we had a chance to net him for €10m two years ago and got shaded by BL's CL football berth, which Leverkusen are still pushing for this season.

How does a counter threat help us with bus parkers? I'm not saying he won't score goals, just that it's a sizeable fee and I've not seen enough of him to know what he generally does with the football when he's closed down.

Would like to hear from a regular watcher on this.

A Leverkusen spokesman basically said they didn't want to talk about the Son transfer as their focus was on the match tonight, which I assume is where the 'not an issue' thing has come from

But he didn't deny the transfer wasn't happening? Just trying to avoid questions about it...?

Seems like news outlets have jumped the gun. I'm guessing we have met his release fee (if he has one), now the job is about convincing him to sign for us. Still a long way to go if even remotely true.

ITK from Ben (it's in the daily thread) suggests that it's the other way around: Player wants to come, club doesn't want to part.

Let's see, if he's in the squad at 6.45pm then we know this is a way off. If he's not, he's almost certainly being sold to someone. I would be surprised at a player missing a game of this importance. They are 2 - 0 up, but still...

The strange thing about this transfer is Son would be replacing the very player that could feed him and make him a success.

For all his critics Lamela does have vision and will see a pass, but I believe a lot of it is due to a lack of movement in front of him meaning he tries to do too much himself, which he isn't great at.

Would prefer if Townsend was the one to make way.

Son is South Korean. Our main sponsor is AIA. AIA is a pan Asian insurance company. We could use an Asian presence on the team to help push ourselves and the partnership in that market. Wonder if AIA might be pushing us to sign one and wonder if Levy is seeing big marketing potential. Could influence ENIC to maybe loosen the wallet a bit...

From reading other forums (Bundesliga included), Leverkusen could actually do with the money, and almost everyone agrees its a good deal for both sides. 30m Euros is a lot for a Bundesliga club.

I actually see Lamela + 10m as very good business. I think the potential is there with Erik, but he hasn't fit in. Son provides the pace and directness we lack from a winger.

Sell a player to sign a player who would both benefit big time from each others presence in the team. it's not really strange. It's something that we like to call Spursy.

I agree about Son, but you need the balance between players like Clinton and Son and more creative support players in the team like Lamela and Pritchard. The movement needs to be there, but the creativity needs to be also.

We could have an issue now whereby the confidence of the attackers falls as their movements are not being picked out.

I just don't see what Townsend offers in this system, he is best as a natural left sided winger but there is no we will ever play that way with Danny Rose at left back.

Plenty will disagree but I'd still hold onto Lamela, he can be the back up 10 and RW... I just get the feeling there is a payoff around the corner with Lamela.... I'm probably still be saying this in 5 years but them my onions

From what I can see, he's never played up top on his own, so I would be very concerned if we purchased him for that position.

That's not true, in that link you quoted he played up top on his own in a lot of games. The victory against Mainz for example:

http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/...ellung_1-fsv-mainz-05-30_hamburger-sv-12.html

Besides that he started his career as a striker. Anyway, it would tie in with us wanting a WF who could play up top if need be.
