I have to doff my cap to Harry on this one as he has well and truly went out on a limb to bring this man to White Hart Lane, despite reservations by us as fans that he would provide us with anything we didn't already possess in midfield but to all sceptics, including myself, I have to indulge in a huge slice of humble pie.

An analysis of Scott Parker today typifies everything you want in a central midfielder who's pre-requisite is to add bite, keep it simple and lead by example. What impresses me most about Scott Parker though, is the influence he has on others around him and the drive to chase down every ball whilst conversely adopting a calm and composed manner with possession, keeping things simple.

All these traits reminded of a player I admired greatly in the 90's and early 00's, someone who would drive the team forward when times were tough and lead by example but also an extremely talented player, that man, you might have guessed, is Roy Keane and folks, I think we've found our very own here in Scott Parker.

Before a few smart-arse's dig up stats between the two I'm sure they don't compare at all well but that's beside the point, for what Parker currently brings to this side now he is every bit as important to the teams dynamic and you can see his influence on how we conduct ourselves on the pitch.

Ledley King is Captain of this club, but for me, the true leader on that pitch is Scott Parker.

Im gleefully stuffing my face with humble pie. I thought he was gonna be like pienaar, weird signing not really adding anything we don't already have... But I was completely wrong. It's hard trying to pick players from mid to lower prem sides who could actually make the step up but harry deserves all the credit here... Truly brilliant signing HR, glad your the manager and I'm not!

I think the main difference between them is in the mentality and the effect Parker has on his teammates. He really is a true leader, always pushing the team to go the extra mile. Sandro needs a couple of years more to do that I think.

Don't get me wrong I'm a huge fan of Sandro and his ability, I just think Parker edges it because of the aforementioned.

Parker was ruling the pitch today, he was truly great. Todays display made me forget all about Diarra. At first I was a sceptic, but any doubt about I had was entirely washed away today. He was all over QPR and the amount of work he put in was just awesome.

Keane scored crucial goals for Man Utd. We have yet to see that from Parker.

Although Keane was a good player I still think he's a complete scum bag for ending someone's (Man City bloke) career on purpose so I would say Parker could be our Roy Keane but with more class.

I always wanted Harry to sign him and was totally behind his pursuit of him.

But he's even surpassing my expectations...

I'll be amazed if he doesn't get our player of the season, although a few others might run him very close.

He's only played 7 games so I'm sure he will score goals in time, he did it quite a few times for West Ham last year.

LOL Parker and Sandro are nothing alike.

Both love a tackle, but Sandro's game is best breaking up inside our half. Parker can do this, but he is at his best pressing higher up the pitch. In games like Chelsea away the combo could be absolutely devastating because neither are simply 'DM/Holding' players but can get stuck in, press and give the ball simple but without our formation being a negative one.

They are very different players imo.

Come again? Because they both break up play they are basically the same?

I was all for Parker and definitely prefered his signing to Lass Diarra and I argued it a lot at the time. Parker has brought a lot to our side, his work ethic is brilliant, he closes down, flies into tackles and it rubs off on other players.

Sandro is a quite different player. He is more like having Ledley sitting in front of the defence. He was absolutely brilliant last season but he doesn't go flying into tackles quite in the same way. He still wins a lot of balls, wins them in deep positions but he isn't going to press all over the pitch.

I think the main difference between them is in the mentality and the effect Parker has on his teammates. He really is a true leader, always pushing the team to go the extra mile. Sandro needs a couple of years more to do that I think.

Yes Parker rubs off on other players but even at times yesterday in the second half we still found ourselves a little bit shapeless in midfield because Parker is having to scurry around tackling everything in site. When Sandro is on the pitch it feels different. I think the last 30 minutes he came on against Wigan and they were having a little spell and were looking dangerous like they might come back into a game we had completely dominated really showed this. Parker had been flying into tackles and winning them but we were still coming under pressure. Sandro came on along side him and all of a sudden Parker wasn't having to fly around because Sandro was just picking balls off in front of the defence and we suddenly had shape and I don't think Wigan ever got a foothold on the game again from that moment on.

This. The Milan away game springs to mind where Sandro played with Palacios. Of course people thinking that it would be a defensive move to play both of them are, in my opinion, completely wrong. We'd just free up the attacking players even more. Again yesterday in the second half we lost our way a little bit because the system we played gives far too much defensive responsibility to players like Modric and VDV and we found them in defensive positions too often. As a result our defence got pretty deep too. Man City play both Toure and Barry in the centre of midfield and not many people are going to be calling them out for being defensive this season. Our attacking players are massively talented in much the same way as City's are and having Parker and Sandro together would give them that freedom to really express themselves.
