Tottenham have set their sights on Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez, a 22-year-old who has been in scintillating form this season. With 24 goals and five assists in 35 games, Gimenez has emerged as the prime candidate to lead Spurs’ attack.

As of 3 minutes ago I'd never heard of him (I don't follow the Dutch league at all).
Now he'll have to sign or it'll be tragic.
We must do it!

Those numbers look good tho, even in a lower league

Saw him against the USA in the Nations Cup final. It was just one game and Mexico set up pretty defensively so who knows. He didn't jump out at me though and doing it in the Dutch league is a guarantee of nothing. I wonder how many goals Richy would score in the Eredivisie.

We seem to have an actual system and ability to identify players these days so trust the club if it comes to pass I suppose.

Apart from Ruud van Nistelrooij, I can't think of any specialist strikers/centre forwards from the Dutch league who've been successful in the PL. I'd be a bit wary.

But that's a debate for another thread.....

Thing is though, the main point is trusting the process in terms of the current scouting structure.

Scoring for fun in dutch league with top team, for Mexico he's very similar to what Troy Parrott is with Ireland.

Although he was undoubtedly a superb player, he played in a variety of positions where he was either scoring or creating goals, so he wasn't an out-and-out goalscorer. I should have remembered Hasselbaink, Van Persie and Suarez. Maybe I was trying to forget them because they played for such obnoxious clubs, so I hope others will forgive my memory lapse.

The point that leading scorers in the Eredivisie generally struggle here still stands.

He also came to the Prem from Inter, who knocked out the mighty Norwich City in the UEFA Cup or Cup Winners Cup (can’t remember which), so he’d played a while in what was - at the time - the best league in world football. It’s like saying Rafa VdV came to us from the Dutch league, when clearly he didn’t.

I'm still having nightmares after Vincent Jansen who I thought was going to rip it up considering his record in the Dutch league. So yeah, I'm kinda agreeing with WorcesterTHFC on this one that we would need to be careful.

Think it would be less risky to go 60 - 70m on Toney tbh.

I'd even be happy with a cheeky move for Jarrod Bowen - think he would suit Ange's system very well.

Having watched him a number of times, he is Vincent Jansen MK 2. He has good goal scoring figures in the dutch league but his overall play is quite limited and poor. I really dont think he will cut it in the prem and know a few Feyenoord fans who think the same. I hope we look elsewhere.

In fairness to you, Suarez had outrageous numbers at Ajax. 49 goals in the final season. Van Persie took years to become his best in the PL. Hasselbaink didn't come straight to the PL from Holland.

The misses far outnumber the hits. Most of the league's top goalscorers have come through an English club's academy and been bought by a bigger club. The one overseas league that has had a lot of successes in England is the French league.
