Antonio Conte identifies first target of Tottenham's £150m summer spending spree

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has identified his first major signing of the summer as the club's owners have given him a sizable transfer budget to strengthen his squad for next season

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has Europa League-winning Eintracht Frankfurt wing-back Filip Kostic in his sights as part of a £150million spending spree.

Tottenham’s owners ENIC have confirmed they are pumping in the staggering cash injection Conte has been demanding to fuel a title challenge from Spurs next season.

A statement announced that "the equity injection provides the Premier League Club with greater financial flexibility and the ability to further invest on and off the pitch. The investment represents permanent capital, with no ongoing interest cost to the club, and which may be drawn in tranches until the end of the year.

"The statement went on:The club’s independent directors have benefited from its majority shareholder’s ability to invest directly, swiftly and without the extensive due diligence and documentation involved in third party funding.” Tottenham are desperate for Conte to continue his work after the Italian led the club into the Champions League following a shambolic first half of the season.

Defying the odds and in a stunning riposte to Manchester United chiefs who rejected him, Conte ended the season having rejuvenated Harry Kane and having improved the transfer values of a string of players he doesn’t even want. Conte wants at least two central defenders, a new right wing-back and left wing-back, another midfielder and another striker.

Among his potential arrivals is £12million-rated Kostic. The 29-year-old has just a year left on his contract and both Conte and his Director of Football Management, Fabio Paratici, are keen to invest in his consistency. Last weekend Kostic was crowned Europa League Player of the Tournament by UEFA. He is among a string of targets Conte has laid out to target with the backing of Spurs chairman Daniel Levy this summer.

The north Londoners are keen for Conte to continue his work after the Italian led the club into the Champions League following a shambolic first half of the season. Kostic has been hugely impressive for Frankfurt this season, proving himself to be one of the best left-wing backs in Europe. In the Europa League he finished with three goals and the most assists - six - in the competition. The combination made him the joint-most productive player alongside Rangers’ James Tavernier.

Jose Mourinho is keen to take Kostic to Roma while Lazio believed they had a deal to sign him wrapped up last summer, only for Frankfurt to decide they did not to sell. Conte remains an admirer of Ryan Sessegnon and is excited by the 22-year-old’s potential but is likely to sell Sergio Reguilon - who only signed last summer for £27.5million - with the Spaniard no longer in his plans.

If he does sign for us and because he offers elite ball striking and crossing technique, he'll probably lead the team in assists.

He put some insane numbers last season. Obviously, there differences in the quality of defenders in both leagues but I cant help getting excited about the prospect of Kane, Son, Kulu and even Doherty making those runs into the box and Kostic finding them. Add in his set piece ability and we're looking at player who could win us up to 15 points in a season.

The compilation below is from this season. Just watch majority of his goals and the positions he's shooting from. I can recall at least 2 , maybe 3 games where Reguillon was in a similar positions for us and completely fluffed the opportunities.

It's almost laughable how perfect of a signing Kostic would be for us.

-Brilliant delivery both on crosses in free kicks, one of the most prolific crossers in Europe for good reason
-Can take left footed corners extremely well
-Tenacious, built to be a wing back, seemingly indefatigable stamina
-CHEAP, out of contract next year with a fee rumored in <15m range
-Brilliant in big matches this season, no fear of the moment and likely quick adjustment to the system

What more could you want? If there was one nitpick it's that his pace and athleticism isn't electric. He is quick but not Sess or Reg fast, and at 29 he isn't going to get any better athletically. But his stamina is top tier and I think his grit overall makes up for it.

In love with this signing, if we could pull it off for the rumored 12m it would be such a ridiculous coup we'd be laughing for weeks on end.

Looks ideal and being 29 it probably suits having him and Sess vying for that spot.

Reggi has just stagnated terribly in my opinion, I wouldn't be opposed to selling him for 30m and replacing him with this guy.

There's certainly a 'cash-flow' consideration to every squad build, as a team brings in players over a number of transfer windows.

Signing this guy for as little as £15m tides us over for a few seasons in that position and allows us to spend larger sums elsewhere, this summer.

It's funny, because I've just been posting in the Eriksen thread and it's the same situation with him.

Forster, Kostic, Eriksen and Dybala; basically bring in 4 useful/quality players, for a reasonably modest amount (including agent's fees, etc).

What's not to like!

All makes sense - no chance we get Dybala though

I must admit, I've hardly seen this guy, but his stats are seriously impressive

Yep, he would be my pick as wing back. He is now in his prime and for the money he costs its great value.

I feel like someone like Kostic would complement Sess nicely.

Someone a bit older, more experienced and a decent injury record to go with Sessegnon's youth but also his injury issues.

If he arrives Harry is gonna have a field day. The volume with which he delivers quality crosses is second to none.
