Chelsea make £25 million Ross Barkley bid as frantic week gathers pace

Chelsea’s frenetic end to the transfer window has stepped up a pace with the Premier League champions lodging a bid for Everton midfielder Ross Barkley.

The offer is believed to be worth around £25million and comes on the back of the £35m bid for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Chelsea will make a third offer for Leicester City’s Danny Drinkwater and are optimistic Swansea City will sanction the sale of striker Fernando Llorente before the transfer window shuts on Thursday night.

Everton originally valued Barkley at £50m at the start of the window, but are aware they will no longer get close to that figure and are now in talks with Chelsea over a deal.

Tottenham Hotspur have held a long-standing interest in Barkley and Everton will now hope they make a counter bid to try to drive the 23-year-old’s price back up.

Despite the fact Barkley is out for around three months with a hamstring injury and is in the final 12 months of his contract, Chelsea want to do a deal in this window.

They have not been put off by the injury, as there is a belief inside Stamford Bridge that, in time, Barkley could prove to be a real bargain.

Spurs believed they were in the driving seat in the chase for Barkley and must now act quickly to make sure they do not lose out to their London rivals.

Surely Spurs are now in the situation where they let Chelsea (if this story is true) set his market and we bid the same and well etc etc ...

I've been out all day so no clue what the fuck is going on, the Aurier thread seems to be having the same Cure reunion party as this thread was the other day.

I struggle to believe Barkley is so desperate to play for us, he'd turn down a shit load more money and bigger chance of winning trophies at chavscum. Fair play to the lad if he is.

Only way he would even think about signing for chavs, is we walk away-not! Not long to wait.
Exactly the way I see it, I doubt he's stupid. It's clear for all to see that Chelsea just want to fill up their quota of English players.

He won't develop as a player anywhere near as much at Chelsea, won't get the game time. They're even trying to sign another English player who plays the exact same position as well (albeit nowhere near as good)

Trix hasn't even logged on in days he just has a bot that periodically pops in here and posts this emoji because he knows that we're all going on about the same thing we were.

He'd rot on the Chelsea bench. Lots of players have more ambition than picking up a paycheck and sitting in the stands week after week chilling with Danny Drinkwater.

We can say good buy to this deal he will sign for Chelsea- Levy fluffing around has cost Spurs another player.

Not true. Everton were asking an absolutely ridiculous amount for him and it made no sense whatsoever to pay that because we know that Everton are more desperate to sell him than we are to sign him. They can't afford for him to leave on a free next summer so playing silly bollocks asking 50m for him was just stupid on their part.

Barkley has already said he's prepared to take a paycut to come to us because he sees Pochettino as the guy who can help him achieve his potential. He wants to come to us over everyone else and knows full well that he'd just stagnate at Chelsea. Unless they offer him some absolutely mental contract that he can't possibly refuse, he'll pick us IMO.
