Surely no one harbours a grudge all these years later? Robbie Keane's comments stick because they fit in so well with that old joke about footballers claiming it has always been their dream to play for : insert here whichever club is willing to pay them more money and offer them better prospects. But ironically Robbie was almost certainly telling the truth - Liverpool and Celtic are a massive deal in Ireland and it is perfectly feasible he grew up supporting and dreaming of playing for both. Good for him!

Keano was a legend for us and one of my favourite players.

But that doesn't mean I won't remind him of his boyhood dream club comments - as a joke. It's a chat forum.

Would I say this to his face if I got to meet him in person? Probably not. But the opening post in this thread is funny as fcuk and actually made me "lol".

Do the people who get upset in this thread also get upset when we sing the "he's only got one knee" about club legend, Ledley? Hope not.

We have to remember when Keane left for Liverpool, we'd just finished 11th in the league. We were 30 points behind Liverpool in the final UCL place, and only 10 ahead of relegated Reading. League Cup aside, we were roughly where West Ham are now - a couple of promising seasons well into the top half, including nearly sneaking a Champions League spot, followed by one of total mediocrity. Anyone except the most ardent Tottenham fan who was offered in that moment the chance to move to Liverpool and play regularly there would bite your hands off. Keane wasn't disloyal, we just weren't very good in truth and we'd do well to remember how far we've come as a club so quickly.

Jokes has been done to death but he'll never be a spurs legend because of this in my humble opinion.

And did Robbie Keane go to Liverpool for nothing? We were obviously willing to sell him - we could have kept him - we didn't.
He went on strike and refused to play for us.

I have no opinion on all the other stuff in this thread, it's meaningless banter, a throw away line, but Keane's behaviour forcing his transfer through was every bit as poor as Berbatov's. It's a matter of record if anyone can be bothered to search the club's website archives, Daniel Levy issued a public statement regarding Keane's behaviour and complained to the PL about Liverpool's behaviour.

That move effectively killed his career in the UK, he's a joke to 'Pool supporters and was a shadow of his former self when he returned to us before going on to be loaned out to lesser teams.

And yes, I still would have cheered him had he turned out at the Ledley King testimonial, I'm assuming it was commitments to Galaxy that prevented him travelling.
