Remains to be seen but Arsenal didn't spend on transfers properly until 5 years had elapsed. Seeing as our development is looking to cost over £700M if we're being realistic it could be longer than that for us. It's a shit ton of money, a LOT more than Arsenal had to find. Maybe the NFL deal will help with naming rights, but I doubt it will be enough that we aren't struggling for cash for a long time.

Arsenal's combined stadium and shirt naming rights deal (now signed a decade ago) was widely regarded even then as being low to outsiders - giving maybe £4m pa on top of a shirt sponsorship deal.

The Arsenal MD who signed the deal was forced out of Arsenal fairly shortly after. I'll leave you to guess if there was a connection.

BTW, we'll only know what our naming rights deal looks like when its announced in 18 months/2 years time, so the question atm is do you trust DL to get the best deal going for the club. His reputation as a negotiator suggests the answer should be 'yes'

The question is how long will this go on for? With millions and millions saved on transfers. The new 100 million to deal, the stadium being named and sponsored, surely this isn't a ten year of pain job rather than once we get to the stadium we will be ok? We don't need anything bar a striker at mo and we are lucky, but I don't know how long we can keep this up for without weaking us.

certainly not 10 years of pain.

I'd guess on the next 2 years having uncertainty whilst the stadium is being built (and before naming rights deal is signed) and then a year or two after (just as when I bought my flat the first year after I was to skint to go out for a meal to a restaurant). But after that the financial constraints will definitely lift - they may do so earlier, and if they do regard it as good news.

But it also doesn't mean anything other than being careful (as we have after 2013) over the next few years, so is way short of a crisis

Absolutely fantastic article and probably what some fans needed to hear in all honesty.

This man is our future and everything else will take care of itself if we look after him - as far I'm concerned anyway.

The dignity he shows and his general conduct are an absolute credit to the Club.

There were a coupl eof things that struck me about that article. The first was the synergy of the squad. That makes the difference between a good team and a great one, it's the difference where everyone fights for each other and with each other. We are now seeing a real synergy develop. if they can keep that into next season, hitting the games with wins, rather than 3 points from the first 4 games and then lots of draws then we will be really in the mix, more so than we are at the moment.

The other thing that struck me was the issue of Woolwich Wanderers not being able to spend for the first 5 years or so after the stadium was built. We have a very young side AND a very good academy. It is quite possiblke that in 3 or 4 years, if the current side stays together, that we won't have the space for some of the quality youngsters coming through. The would mean having the option of selling quality youngsters, or selling established players and chosing which one is best. Having just sold Townsend for £12m it could be that we become a selling club again, with the difference that we want to and can chose who we wnat to let go.

I agree this seems a bit fanciful at the moment, but there you have real synergy team members don't want to leave, success breads success. The great Liverpool side in the recent past proved that and I have worked in very good teams, not in football, where people really didn't want to leave. It's a fantastic feeling being in such a team and I really hope that this team continues in the direction it is currently heading. It only takes one wrong person to destroy that feeling so Poch is absolutely right in not wanting to bring the wrong person in.

The future is very bright!

Poch doesn't say anything about finances being tight, nothing at all. A club like ourselves should always be careful with money, I certainly don't feel that our squad requires heavy investment. With 25 million available and 12 million from the Townsend sale and maybe some cash from a Fazio sale as well, that is more than enough

Where's the 25 mill from? We will only have townsends money at this point

Didn't we bid 25 million for Berahino in the summer? Still being linked with him and other strikers. Levy also suggested to Poch that he could get Austin and Poch turned it down, so there is definitely funds available.
