Indeed. Its probably just me and my natural inclination to be suspicious of Levy, but everyone bangs on about how we do things now is brilliant, its how we should be doing it etc etc……..So how come it took him over ten bastard years to hit on it if he's the 'best chairman in the PL'?

Takes can of worms……..Opens it :D

Dont bite people i'm only kidding :sneaky:

Wasn't their itk that Lewis was the one who wanted pochettino and levy wanted someone else. So he might not even be able to claim credit for the appointment!

This is a serious and seriously good article and really deserves to be on the front page. There haven't been many interviews that have permitted Pochettino to set out the full picture of his way of running our football affairs. This one comes close.

I wish all of the knee-jerk cliché-mongers who are living in a resentful, stereotyped version of the club from about 2008 would read this for breakfast, read this for lunch and read this for dinner.

I've been saying for a couple of years now that people get way too obsessed with transfer business. This interview confirms that transfers no longer represent the main way that Pochettino is building a team. You'd think people might have noticed that by now.

Generally I agree, but I don't think expecting us to have more than 1 genuine CF is being a "transfer junkie". It's a perfectly reasonable stance, particularly if we are supposed to be a club chasing CL qualification or even aiming for the title.

Of course our limited funds mean we can't afford to make expensive mistakes, but that doesn't preclude us from getting someone in on loan until the summer.

At the moment everything is rosy, but an injury to Kane or accumulated fatigue affecting his performances at the business end to the season and the mood may be somewhat different. We are taking a big gamble imo.

Does anyone have a link to his press conf? Would like to watch it.

Edit: Sorry I just watched the whole thing myself and the question doesn't appear. I can only assume it wasn't a question for broadcast otherwise it would be there.

Since Levy gets the blame for not investing rather than joe i think it can slide.

Otherwise we really have to sort out who gets blame/credit for what. Levy runs the business as directed by joe.

It hasn't been effected for the last 6+ years. Our transfer budget is what we get from sales.

And what happens when there aren't any big players we want to sell to raise funds? Not buy anyone I guess would be the logical answer.

We have to juggle. Incredibly difficult for all concerned, is why we are so tough in negotiations and levy tries to make every £ count. Also why we miss out sometimes.

I totally understand why fans find it frustrating. But life is a lot more bareable if we just accept that's how it is at the moment and concentrate on the football rather than transfers.

Nothing that surprising. He just means that we cant afford to blow 20m or 30m on Paulinho´s or Soldado´s anymore. Fair enough.

Just a few short months ago according to this……... clicky

Also Levy bid £20M for Berahino on deadline day and just sold Townsend for £12M.

This would indicate there is at least £30M in the transfer pot.

Where Poch's statement is encouraging is the focus on the player's character. The secret of Ferguson's success and the downfall of many Tottenham Managers under Levy.

The real question for me is how long does the austerity last. For Arsenal it was until they'd been in the stadium for 5 years.

Levy bid £20m over 5 years not a lump sum.

Not really. They just wanted to clear the high interest rates fast. They also had funds for players but didn't spend.

Their matchday revenue went from £30m a year to £100m a year (roughly). They didn't need to spend £70m a year paying for it.
Also we've been paying for the stadium for a couple of years already and should get a massive naming rights deal due to nfl.

His English really has come on leaps and bounds in the last year. So much better than when he joined us.

Remains to be seen but Arsenal didn't spend on transfers properly until 5 years had elapsed. Seeing as our development is looking to cost over £700M if we're being realistic it could be longer than that for us. It's a shit ton of money, a LOT more than Arsenal had to find. Maybe the NFL deal will help with naming rights, but I doubt it will be enough that we aren't struggling for cash for a long time.

It's going to be tough. Arsenal were also hit by the credit crunch and found it difficult to offload the properties at highbury. Hopefully we can sell ours off before they are even built.

I quite like that Pochettino is developing the players we have, into players better than the majority of the ones we spent aimlessly on. I think that its absolutely true that he has created a great ethic in the squad, and wants to be very selective about who he brings in with regards to that ethic.
