I have to admit he doesn't feel like a Conte/Paratici signing to me, I'm not sure why, but it doesn't surprise me that this won't be happening. Same with Neves who's name pops up a lot on here too, I personally don't think he's in the picture either.

He is a good player that would not cost a fortune, I think that is the main appeal. I'm not surprised we aren't going for him though

Shame as I think he would have been superb in that CM2 role in a Conte side but must suggest we have others lined up and i'm not including Eriksen here who for the life of me I can't see operating in the middle for us despite what people think unless we change the system from time to time and have a 3.

Villa could potentially have a midfield of:
Coutinho
Kamara/McGinn----------------Bissouma
That's on par with ours.

They'll be a threat next season if Gerrard can get the best out of them.

A definitive 'not happening' at this stage suggests there is a very good reason why we are not going after him. Based purely on football ability, I'd very much want him, but with the 'other things' going on I'm not surprised the club would want to look elsewhere. I don't get the feeling Conte is a manager that wants to deal with myriad off-field issues.

Also might be why the price is c.£30m. On face value that seems a steal for a talented, PL hardened CM. So potentially whoever signs him might have issues down the line.

I think they would go with bissouma/kamara/ Ramsey with couthinio on the right wing but it'd a good point.

They are making moves to be a top 8 and top 6 contender. Very ambitious.

I didn't even think of Ramsey!

Yup, they're heavily backing Gerrard - fair play.

From a footballing perspective this is a shame because I think he's absolutely perfect for our formation. Great engine, great tackler and can genuinely run the midfield. I felt he could have partnered great with Bentancur but also, importantly, I think he's someone who can influence the pace of the game when Bents isn't playing.

For £30m I don't see a better option for us in world football, so can only think that we have investigated him as a character and don't feel he's right in that regard. Have to say, outside of the accusations, he is known as a bit of a wide-boy, likes his flash designer clothes etc. Doesn't make him unprofessional but perhaps we see some parallels with Dele Alli that have put us off. If so you have to say it's a massive positive that our scouting department are taking that side of things seriously after being burnt badly by Ndombele.

Man City are strongly linked with Phillips so I guess we'll need to look to the continent for midfield reinforcements.

As good as he is, I think we have someone better lined up which Conte approves of.

Let's hope it's SMS or Phillips!

There was some reports a little while ago that Conte wanted a Jorginho type bought in. I’m a massive Bissouma fan as well but he’s not really in that mould of a deep playmaker

Eriksen could play this role like he did at Inter, with two workhorses either side of him. Neves or Phillips are also great passers from deep and can also operate in a 2.

Aware that Hercules has poured cold water over this, but having gone about it so much I felt compelled to share this to show his ball striking ability?

Yeah all really good options. Think Eriksen is a no brainier and although Phillips has been linked more I could see the club going for neves and potentially an easier deal to do
