They want Toby and don’t want to sell us Martial. If we roll over and sell the Toby without Martial included just to squeeze and extra £20m or so we will have been truly Levyd. It’s time for him to show he puts the success of the team ahead of the bank balance just this once. If you want to play with the big boys you’ve got to stand up to the bullies. Your time to shine Levy.

I thought you wanted to sell Toby to them regardless or Martial?

I'm shocked the amount of people I've been arguing with for months over this and just cause Gards says it, they agree now.

I would've been OK with selling Toby to them for some extortionate amount, providing we bring in a WF near the quality of Martial if they refuse to sell.

Neither seem to be an option at this stage, so it's Martial or no sale imo

At least Levy's signed up for "LastminuteTransfer.com". So we should be ok.:nailbiting:

I wanted to sell Toby for a good price regardless of Martial yes. When it came about before, there was talk of £70m for Toby. Not sure where I've said different above?
Your edit made it seem like you agreed with that post, saying we shouldn't sell him to them.

His follow up: If martial isn’t included and Toby goes then I expect a riot! It would simply be not good enough! No hiding at all from that. I would genuinely rather keep him and sell him for 25m in a years time to make a point! I’m sure most spurs fans would agree!

This is his opinion but is the same view I, and many others around here have.

Levy won't care. They offer enough cash and he's gone. Same as Walker.

So Gards info is basically that Mina is a smokescreen that I'm glad Levy has seen through. (Or if not it's a bad move by Utd!).

I'm taking the Martial bit as opinion and has no bearing on what Utd will do. I think Levy genuinely believes they'll crack. Big risk unless we have a Bailey or Pulisic lined up if Utd don't relent (in reality we'll stick with Moura/Lamela plus Grealish).

I genuinely think Utd fear him becoming at star with us too much to relent, but I will bow down to the bald one if he's right.

(As for Dier/Foyth being the replacement that worries me quite a bit, I can get by with that if we bring in another CM capable of holding however)

Thing is, selling Toby to United and not getting Martial wouldn't be so bad to me personally if we had already done quite good business. Like say if we'd gotten Zaha and a good CM I'd be happy to just sell Toby for a fair price and use the funds to further add to our team. As things stand though selling him without getting Martial and with no signings to show for is just something that's going to further frustrate the fans.

Swap deal involving Matial has to and must be our only stance in this. If United are too arrogant to think otherwise then more fool them.

No I was agreeing with @synththfc when he stated the United board are probably scared Martial will turn out a good player for us and don't trust Mourinho's judgement.

When people were suggesting we'll be getting Van Dijk money when trying to work out our budget I thought it was optimistic.
They had all the power because of this clause and fact Toby wasn't signing new deal, they knew we had to sell or risk losing him for 25m next year. There's no reason for them to pay over odds for him. Reason we aren't getting martial is because they likely value him at much a higher price than they'd pay for Toby and no chance levy is giving them Toby and cash.

FWIW, I agree on the stance of 'No Martial = No Toby' time to make a big club stance. You rarely see our rivals getting bent over in the same way. Sell Toby without it being on our terms, and its shows we moved no further forward than the Berbatov/Campbell era.
I understand there may be financial ramifications, but we may still have the option of selling abroad after our window closes.

Yeah I agree now, that was the figure mooted at one point though. Forget where it came from.
I mean realistically what are we going to do with 40-50 mil that will satisfy the fans if we still can't bring in non-HG players?

United seem to be banking on Levy capitulating on Martial and accepting a fee for Toby which will be much higher than we would get in either January or next Summer. It’s got to be Martial or no deal on this. Anything else will make us look really weak.

Yeah, it was defo floated around (maybe optimistically) in the early days. I think, and this is a guess, that the reported 150mil to spend may have included this inflated fee.

I just don't f*cking get why the hell Man U won't do an exchange w/ Martial? Do they hate Levy that much? Are they that scared of Poch/Spurs? It just doesn't make sense. It's a mutually beneficial deal.
Nothing to do with hate. Maureen is a bit of a bully and the UTD money men, believe Spurs are beneath them. They don't believe they have to do anything, and that it's their right to take Toby, and not deal with us in return. Same old crap. Either Levy tells them to eff themselves or gets Martial or charges them 100M to quench the rabid anger of the fans.

They are also probably reluctant to strengthen a rival, at any price. At the same time, they know we don’t mind if the price is right. Pivotal transfer this, for many reasons.

Best thing with a swap deal is that we can spend big on a cm. As that would ever happen ☹️

Mourinho is petrified that Martial becomes his next KdB, Salah, Lukaku. I suspect Woodward knows Mourinho won’t be there long and doesn’t want to load the squad with 30 somethings and ship out their best young players. Hilarious that they want rid of a player but clearly have concerns about their manager’s judgement.
