Didn’t Man U want Godin though 12 months ago? They went in for him on deadline day. I wonder if they’ll do the same in 2 weeks with Toby if they’ve brought nobody else in and are desperate. Might do it to placate the fans.
Don't see Utd as a threat really. Jose was begging for him by all accounts and Woodward said no. Add that to OGS targeting younger players.

I would be surprised if anyone is waiting until the end of the window to bid. The disruption of changing your centre back pairing doesn't seem worth it, all for the sake of fucking with us. Especially when we would roll with Sanchez and Jan regardless.

It’s just all weird isn’t it.

The clauses bit is new news to me. I was assuming it would have to be a one off payment as that might favour us but it isn’t. Yet still no teams are biting. It’s very strange and must be down to wages.

Either that or he is going to sit out the contract and go somewhere next summer for a huge signing on fee to negate the loss of wages over the last 2 years, which he could of had if he’d of signed somewhere else.

what I fail to understand with Toby is all this time not signing a new contract he's deprived himself of a massive pay rise. Now if he stays another year and sees out his contract I find it hard to believe he'll make more from a signing on fee when he could have probably trebled his wages week in week out for the two previous seasons. makes no sense to me, overplayed his hand massively.

I tried working it out once, and although you can only guess at figures, it'd be a fairly educated guess re wages - it did work out better for him to move for free next season and receive a signing on fee + decent salary over longish contract, than accepting our pay rise and spending the past 24 months on bigger wages.

Seems very likely that that's what he wants to do, but whether that'll happen who knows ? maybe he's waiting to get to an age where he feels justified in taking an obscene amount of wages in China and forfeiting any professional glory - another CL campaign with us then take home a million a month in China with a £10m signing on bonus (moving in with Mousa to save on rent) ?

I've always been on the opinion that as long as he conducts himself properly and doesn't deceive us, and gives his all on the pitch (which you can't fault him on), then whatever he chooses is fine - although if i had to choose i'd prefer he stayed this season, allowed Foyth and Sanchez to mature further, then left on a free when a loss of £25m for his transfer would be far less of a problem financially given our upsurge in revenue.

He's going to need a 3 year deal worth over £250k to come out on top, I'm not sure if anyone will do that when he's 31 next summer. Hindsight is a beautiful thing but it might be getting to the point where he regrets not signing the deal.

I'm pretty sure £135-150k that our reported offer was would have put him in the top 10 paid CBs in Europe, defenders rarely get the top money.

Sky Italia reporting (Sky re-reporting) that Roma have a possible interest in him now.

Doubtful, but it's a link ...

Still have a horrible, irrational fear that he'll go to Arsenal

Its not that far irrational to be honest. If you have a young family settled in an area there is a lot more to consider than just football and finances. So Its not just where Toby wants to go that has to be considered.
Its already reported that there was some falling out between Poch/club and his father/wife/both so doubt they would give 2 hoots if he played for Arsenal and earnt more and at the same time they could carry on living their life in an area where they are settled.

Swap for zaniollo (or however you spell it).
Well it's been mooted in the press but we rarely see that sort of thing happen, the report about Toby does mention two other centre backs so I guess it's probably another use of Spurs/a spurs player being used to move another deal along.

Looks like a busy two or so weeks are ahead of us and many other teams.

A busy couple of weeks for sports 'journalists' making up stories. We'll see how busy we are. Hopefully very with in's and outs.

They're always busy, that's their job!

Bah i could do their job in two mins and i'm in the pub.

MEGA TRANSFER MERRY GO ROUND.
This week will see a transfer bonanza with neymars move to real madrid kicking off a flurry of activity. PSG will move quickly to fill the hole with a move for spur's christian eriksen. Manchester utd are already in talks with juve over the availability of dybala, while tottenham complete the deal for betis lo celso and dani cebellos on a year long loan from real madrid.

I don't think he will go Arsenal but I've had so many Arsenal fans tell me they hope he does a Campbell and I explain to them everytime that they clearly haven't been following for very long if they can't understand the level of difference in the nuance of ****ery in what Campbell did. It wouldn't be comparable.

Roma have recently lost their best centre half Kostas Manolas to Serie A rivals Napoli. Something tells me this is just a romantic link to appease the fans perhaps?

For Toby to do a Sol Campbell he would have to go back in time, be born in East London, get rejected by every other London club by the age of 16 (including Arsenal), come through our youth team, go on to become our best player and captain, and ten years later leave us on a free for Arsenal (despite interest from several bigger, more successful clubs domestically and in Europe) having said on record he’d never do that, and having a year previously turned down a move to Man Utd that would net is a British transfer record fee on the premise that he wanted to extend his deal with is.

Yup. Still just as angry almost two decades later.
