Really needs to be made captain. The penalty showed we need an outfield player as captain. Son was clearly the designated penalty taker and Lamela selfishly took it off him - this is where a captain needs to step in and sort it out, but he was down the other end of the pitch. And I'm not totally convinced by Lloris's leadership abilities but I've no doubts about Toby's.

As much as I loved modric, bale, Rafa, jurgen, ginola and berbatov...Toby is just immense. CBs are never going to be glamorous signings, but our defensive record since he signed is incredible.

There's no way we wouldn't have gone into a game without a designated penalty taker, and there's no way it would have been Lamela. He's a 5/10 penalty taker at best. He always hits the ball the same way, inside of the foot curler. And once the keeper read which side he was gonna go, it was quite an easy save, as it curled in to out. Son is a superb striker of the ball, and can hit through it, plus I've no doubt he's taken plenty of penalties.

If we get into a penalties situation in the CL, Lamela is the type of guy to wanna take one, but Poch or the captain needs to say thanks, but no thanks.

There was an instance in the first half when City had the ball on the right wing about 45 yards out. The defense was dropping back along with the play, but Toby was watching the player with the ball (Silva?) and was obviously aware that Fernadinho(?) was creeping up the middle to support the play. Toby the takes a step toward him because he read where a pass was going to go, and he stepped in front of that pass and started a counter from it. I wish I could describe it better, but I'm working strictly from memory. It was absolutely brilliant, and was typical of his ability to do more than just defend the player in front of him - indicative of his ability to read the game nearly flawlessly.
